Nokia 8.1 with Snapdragon 710 and HDR Display Officially Unveiled

In October, HMD Global had launched the Nokia X7 in China as its first Snapdragon 710 SoC powered smartphone. The other highlights of the new Nokia phone included an HDR 10-enabled display and ZEISS branded dual cameras. The Finnish firm has now launched the same phone in Europe with the Nokia 8.1 moniker.

Nokia 8.1 Specifications and Features

The rear side of the Nokia 8.1 features a curved glass panel and its frame is made out of 6000 series aluminum with a dual-tone finish. The device houses a 6.18-inch IPS LCD PureDisplay with HDR 10. The notched screen offers a full HD+ resolution of 2,246 x 1,080 pixels and 18.7:9 aspect ratio. The 2.5D screen of the Nokia 8.1 supports a 96 percent color gamut and 1:1500 contrast ratio. The handset measures 154.8 x 75.7 x 7.97mm and weighs 180 grams.

The Snapdragon 710 drives the Nokia 8.1 along with 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM. A microSD card slot is available for extra storage apart from the inbuilt memory of 64GB. A 3,500mAh battery is packed inside the Nokia 8.1, which supports 18W fast charging. The smartphone runs Android 9 Pie. Like other Nokia smartphones, the Nokia 8.1 is also an Android One device. With Adaptive Battery features of Android 9, the smartphone can last for up to 2 days.

The Nokia 8.1’s vertical dual camera setup features a 12-megapixel primary sensor with OIS. It is assisted by a 13-megapixel fixed focus sensor. The cameras can record 4K video with high fidelity spatial audio stereo surround sound.

AI capabilities for photography brings the ability to add a bokeh effect to images before or after they are shot. The Dual-Sight feature can be used to capture photos or videos through the front and rear cameras simultaneously, and livestream it on YouTube as well. The 20-megapixel adaptive selfie camera that is placed inside the display notch can combine four pixels into one super pixel for capturing better shots in low light conditions.

When it comes to connectivity, the Nokia 8.1 offers dual-SIM support, 4G VoLTE connectivity, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, NFC, USB-C and a 3.5mm audio jack. The rear shell of the phone features a fingerprint sensor below the dual camera setup.

Nokia 8.1 Pricing and Release Date

The Nokia 8.1 comes in three color options such as Blue/Silver, Steel/Copper and Iron/Steel. In Europe, the handset will be available with a price tag of 399 euros (~Rs 32,100) from mid-December. The smartphone is expected to go official on December 10th in India.
