In August, HMD Global Chief Product Officer (CPO) Juho Sarivikas had revealed to Digital Trends that an affordable 5G Nokia will be announced in the coming year. He had claimed that its pricing could be half the cost of existing 5G phones in the US. The company has also revealed that the upcoming 5G smartphone is powered by a new Snapdragon 7-series SoC and it has a notch-less display. Fresh information suggests that this rumored phone could be the Nokia 8.2 5G.
According to an independent source reporting to NokiaPowerUser, the upcoming smartphone ditches the notched display in favor of a pop-up selfie camera. The prototype of the new smartphone with a pop-up front camera and 5G capabilities is currently in its testing phase, claims the report.
The publication has further stated that the upcoming smartphone features a 64-megapixel primary camera module that houses four lenses within a circular unit. The smartphone features a larger sensor than the Nokia 7.2, and will use pixel binning for obtaining smaller final images. All the lenses are ZEISS branded which ensures better Night Mode than the one available on the Nokia 7.2. The device features the latest audio innovations from OZO. There is no official confirmation on the naming yet. But, as per the current nomenclature the upcoming flagship, could be called the Nokia 8.2 5G.
The smartphone is likely to be showcased at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) tech show during late February 2020. The Nokia 8.2 could be priced around the $500 (~Rs 35,500) mark. Speaking on the upcoming Snapdragon 7-series chipset with 5G support, Qualcomm said that the processor is a 7mm unit. It aims to introduce next-generation capabilities to budget smartphones in terms of gaming and overall performance with the new AI Engine.
