HMD Global, the company responsible for manufacturing Nokia smartphones is keen on making an impressive comeback. Rumours about the brand’s much anticipated flagship Nokia 8 has been doing the rounds since long back. Fresh reports have arrived from a Scandavian retailer that the Nokia 8 might be launched earlier than expected, on July 31st.
A lot of speculations were rife about the name of this new flagship, a few sources also claimed that it might be called the Nokia 9. However, according to recent leaks, it is highly likely that the upcoming phone will be called Nokia 8. A few weeks back, a marketing poster of the Nokia 8 was leaked on the internet as well. This leak gave us a peek into how the phone might look.
Nokia 8 is supposed to be a top of the line premium smartphone and its rumoured specifications justify this stature. The phone will pack the Snapdragon 835, the fastest mobile processor by Qualcomm. It will most probably come with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Nokia 8 might also have a dual-camera setup with two 13MP sensors at the back. It is also rumoured that it might have an iris scanner as part of a new biometric authentication system in the phone. As per reports, Nokia might launch two different variants of the phone, one of which will be a dual-SIM variant whereas the other one will allow only a single SIM. The availability of the external storage slot is still unknown.
Previously leaked posters also hint that the phone might be almost bezel-less and have a Quad HD display with a stunning 2K resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. It might have a 5.7 inch screen but still occupy a relatively smaller footprint owing to its thin bezels. If those leaked posters are to be believed, Nokia’s new flagship might come in four different colours – Blue, Steel, Gold and Copper. The overall design of the phone looks quite premium as well.
The same Scandavian retailer which claims that the phone will be launched on July 31st claims that it will be priced €589 which translates to INR 43,415. It will be exciting to see the Indian pricing strategy of Nokia for its flagship. If the company prices the Nokia 8 below Rs. 40,000, this will position the phone away from other flagships like the Galaxy S8 or the iPhone 7. However, it will still be competing with the likes of OnePlus 5, which comes with some crazy specs.
Going by the reports, it seems likely that Nokia will release its flagship smartphone on July 31st. Else, we might have to wait longer in anticipation. Either ways, Nokia 8 will be something to look out for and we hope it’s worth the wait.
