The much anticipated Nokia 8 has been finally unveiled in London by HMD Global. Although a series of leaks already gave a peek into what the phone might offer, the official launch has cleared the speculations and introduced the flagship in full glory. The biggest asset of the phone has to be its cameras, which comes off as a result of the Carl Zeiss partnership. Let’s know everything there is to know about the Nokia 8, the brand’s highly awaited flagship.
Nokia 8 Camera
Nokia 8 sports a dual camera setup with two 13MP RGB and monochrome sensors on the back. The rear cameras have an aperture of f/2.0. The dual-camera setup is accompanied with dual-tone LED flash and laser auto-focus. The front camera houses the same 13MP RGB sensor which is seen on the rear. Both the cameras come with the ability to record 4K videos. Since the lens are made by Zeiss, its branding can be spotted along with the rear cameras.
Nokia has also introduced what they call ‘Bothie’, which will let users capture pictures and videos from both the front and rear cameras simultaneously. This makes Nokia 8 the world’s first smartphone to come with this ability. This will also allow users to broadcast live simultaneously using both the cameras. How useful this feature will be is something we can only know after getting the phone in hands.
Nokia claims it has worked along with Qualcomm to minimise the impact on processor while this feature is being used. Another great feature in the Nokia 8 is the availability of Ozo Audio which lets users capture surround sound. HMD ensures that this virtual surround sound will be preserved even when these videos are uploaded on social networking sites. The dual streaming as well as the Ozo Audio feature is currently not available for any third party apps to use, it will be exclusively present for the stock camera app on the phone.
Nokia 8 Specifications, Performance and Features
The Nokia 8 is powered by the flagship Qualcomm processor, Snapdragon 835. It comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Surprisingly, only a single variant of the phone is available when it comes to RAM and storage. However, the phone will be available in single and hybrid dual SIM variants depending upon the region. The storage capacity can be expanded via a microSD card for up to 256GB. On the battery front, the phone houses a 3090mAh battery pack which shall be sufficient for a day.
Display in the Nokia 8 looks quite stunning as it packs a 5.3-inch 2K LCD display. It is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 5. For connectivity, the phone comes with a USB Type-C port along with a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Currently, the phone will ship with Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box. But HMG Global said that it is in advanced stages of testing Android O on the Nokia 8. He also added that one of the fastest ways of getting the latest Android OS is by having a Nokia 8.
Nokia 8 Colours and Design
Nokia 8 comes with a metal unibody design which is built out of 6000-series aluminium. It comes in two different textures, a glossy and another matte finish. This seems similar to iPhone 7, which was available in jet black (glossy) and matte black. Nokia 8 is available in Polished Copper, Polished Blue, both of which will have a glossy finish and Tempered Blue and Steel, which will have a matte finish. It’s strange how Nokia has offered different colour and finish combinations instead of same colours but with different finish options. The Nokia 8 keeps the bezels though, shying away from the trend that seems to be catching on.
Nokia 8 promises an innovative approach for heat management: a copper pipe runs from the upper right corner of the device to the lower left. There is liquid inside the pipe which evaporates in the middle and condenses towards the edge. Then, a graphite shield allows heat transfer to the aluminium body and lets it dissipate into the air.
Nokia 8 Price
It was announced that Nokia 8 will be globally launched in early September. It’s official price is set at €599 which roughly translates into Rs. 45,000. However, this is not Nokia 8’s price in India. The phone’s India pricing will be announced when it’s launched, most probably in early October.
