Nokia laptops may launch in India soon; receive BIS certification

Nokia entered the television market last December. Now, the Finnish brand is said to be working on laptops as well. There is no official word from the company yet but reports suggest that some Nokia laptops have received certification from Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).

The listing on the certification site indicates the imminent arrival of Nokia laptops in India. It also seems like the laptops will first debut in the Indian market before other countries. The BIS listing was first spotted by Mukul Sharma aka Stufflistings on Twitter.

Nokia laptops spotted on BIS certification site

According to the BIS listing, the Nokia laptops will be manufactured by Tongfang Limited in China. As per the certification database, the brand may launch as many as nine different laptop models. These nine models include NKi510UL82S, NKi510UL85S, NKi510UL165S, NKi510UL810S, NKi510UL1610S, NKi310UL41S, NKi310UL42S, NKi310UL82S, and NKi310UL85S.

A report suggests that the first two characters in the codename represent Nokia branding while the next two refer to the processor details. The number 10 in the model number hint at Windows 10 OS. From the codenames, there could be five Nokia laptops with Intel Core i5 processors and four with Core i3 chipsets. The devices may further differ from each other in terms of RAM and storage.

Apart from the BIS listing, there isn’t much info about Nokia’s upcoming laptop for now. This isn’t the first time that the Finnish brand has tried to make its mark in the computing market. The company had launched the Nokia Booklet 3G way back in 2009. In India, HMD Global sells Nokia-branded smartphones but other devices like streaming box and TVs are branded devices sold by Flipkart. As of now, it is unclear whether the upcoming Nokia laptops will be developed by its brand licensee or Flipkart

Smartphone brands like Xiaomi and Honor already offer their laptops in the Indian market and Realme is also rumoured to be working on its laptops. It will be interesting to see when the Nokia laptops debut in the market.
