HMD global has been teasing the launch of its upcoming Nokia 6.1 Plus for a while now. The Twitter handle of Nokia Mobile India had teased the device promising it to be ‘the most awaited phone’.
Now today at an event held in India, the much awaited Nokia 6.1 Plus has been finally launched. Alongside Nokia 6.1 Plus, the company has also unveiled the Nokia 5.1 Plus. The former is the global name for Nokia X6 while the later is the re-branded version of Nokia X5 launched in China. Let’s take a look at the technical specifications of both the devices.
Nokia 6.1 Plus
Display & Design:
The Nokia 6.1 Plus flaunts a bezel-less display and is the first Nokia phone with a notch on the top like the iPhone X. The display measures 5.8-inches with an 19:9 aspect ratio for immersive experience. It is shielded with Corning Gorilla Glass on the top. The device also highlights an all glass and metal body which feels premium in hands.
Hardware and Camera:
Under the hood, the Nokia 6.1 Plus houses a 1.8GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chipset. It packs 4GB RAM for smooth performance. The device offers 64GB internal memory which is expandable up to 400GB via microSD card. In the optics department, the Nokia 6.1 Plus features a vertical dual rear camera setup. It comprises of 16MP f/2.0 primary RGB sensor and a 5MP f/2.2 monochrome sensor. For better low light photography, the camera features PDAF system and a LED flash. There is a 16MP front facing camera for snapping selfies. Video recording on the device is limited to 1080p. Nokia has integrated Google Motion and Google Lens in the camera UI. It also features AI enhancements and offers Bokeh effect.
OS, Battery & Connectivity:
The Nokia 6.1 Plus is a Android One device that runs on stock Android 8.1 Oreo OS out of the box. Users can expect guaranteed and timely OS updates. It is backed by a 3060 mAh non-removable battery coupled with support for fast charging. The device functions as a dual SIM smartphone and offers all the basic connectivity options like 4G LTE, 3G, 2G, WiFi, and Bluetooth.
Nokia 5.1 Plus:
The Nokia 5.1 Plus is a toned down variant of Nokia 6.1 Plus. The device sports a 5.5-inch bezel-less display which is slightly lower than the 6.1 Plus. In terms of hardware, the Nokia 5.1 Plus is powered by a MediaTek Helio P60 chipset. The phone bears a dual rear camera setup comprising of 13MP and 5MP sensors. Up front, there is a 8MP snapper for selfies. Similar to the Nokia 6.1 Plus, the Nokia 5.1 Plus is also a part of Android One initiative. The device runs on the latest Android 8.1 Oreo OS and offers a stock UI experience. The smartphone is backed by a 3060 mAH battery unit. All the basic connectivity options like 4G LTE, 3G, 2G, WiFi, Bluetooth & VoLTE are supported on this device.
Pricing and Availability:
The Nokia 6.1 Plus has been launched at a price tag of Rs 15,999 and will go on sale from August 30. Nokia hasn’t revealed the price of Nokia 5.1 Plus. It will be made available next month. Both the devices will be available exclusively on Flipkart and Nokia’s own e-store.
