This year, no less than three smartphone brands, namely Huawei’s sub-brand Honor, OnePlus and Motorola have forayed into the television market. While OnePlus and Motorola have launched their respective smart TVs in India, the Honor TV has not made its way to the country yet. Now, Nokia is all set to be the latest entrant. Earlier this month, we reported that the e-commerce platform Flipkart had created a strategic partnership with the brand to make and sell Nokia smart TVs in India. Now, Nokia has started sending out media invites for the launch event, scheduled for December 5th. The TVs will be exclusively available on Flipkart. The e-commerce portal will be responsible for developing, manufacturing, and distributing Nokia TVs in the country. The e-tailer will be manufacturing Nokia TVs in India.
Nokia smart TVs specifications and features
The launch invite doesn’t reveal any details apart from the date and venue. But past leaks have revealed a few specs of the upcoming TVs. It is already confirmed that the Nokia branded smart TVs will feature JBL-powered audio systems. Flipkart claims that it’s the first time JBL’s audio technology will be used on a TV. The TVs are expected to come with features such as Intelligent Dimming technology, Clear Vocal Tones and Minimal Harmonic Distortion. The Nokia smart TV listing on the BIS site reveals a 55-inch display bearing 4K UHD resolution. It is speculated that the TVs will run Android 9 Pie OS with access to the Google ecosystem.
Flipkart first collaborated with Lenovo-owned Motorola to launch the latter’s smart TVs back in September. The shopping portal also sells TVs under its MarQ TV brand. Currently, Xiaomi is dominating the smart TV segment in India. Like Motorola TVs, we expect Nokia smart TVs to be priced aggressively too. We will know more at the launch event next week, so stay tuned.
