Today, HMD Global has launched a new smartphone called Nokia X6 in China. It is the company’s first phone to feature notched display design like the Apple iPhone X. Apart from its design, the other impressive features of the phone such as Snapdragon 636 SoC, up to 6 GB of RAM and dual rear cameras.
The Nokia X6 that measures 147.2 x 70.98 x 7.9 mm and weighs 151 grams has an aluminum frame flanked between front and rear glass panels. According to HMD Global, 95 percent of the exterior of the phone is made out of glass. The back panel of the phone features a vertical dual camera setup and a fingerprint scanner. It can be availed in three colors like black, blue and white.
The Nokia X6 is fitted with a notched IPS LCD screen of 5.8 inches that delivers an aspect ratio of 19:9 and FHD+ resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels. The handset offers a screen-to-body ratio of 80.3 percent. The display is shielded by a layer of Gorilla Glass 3.
The Snapdragon 636 chipset is present under the hood of the Nokia X6. It is the very same smartphone that powers other phones like Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro, Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1, ZenFone 5 and Meizu E3. There are two 64 GB storage models of the Nokia X6 that respectively feature 4 GB and 6 GB of RAM. Its 32 GB variant has 32 GB of inbuilt storage.
The handset features a hybrid microSD card slot for additional storage. Its 3,060mAh battery is coupled with Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging. The handset is preloaded with Android 8.1 Oreo. HMD Global has included Do Not Disturb mode so that its users can take advantage of immersive gaming experience.
The dual camera setup of the Nokia X6 includes an f/2.0 aperture 16-megapixel primary RGB sensor that is coupled with an f/2.2 aperture 5-megapixel secondary monochrome sensor. With AI onboard, the dual rear cameras are equipped with photography features like bokeh mode and HDR.
For snapping selfies, it features a 16-megapixel front-facing camera. With features like beauty filters and intelligent 3D blur, the Nokia X6 can capture marvelous selfie shots. The front camera can be also used for facial recognition. HMD Global has also include the Bothie mode that allows the users to make use of the front and rear cameras at the same time.
The other features that are available on the Nokia X6 include 4G VoLTE, dual-SIM support, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, USB-C, 3.5mm audio jack and GPS.
The Nokia X6 variants such as 32 GB storage + 4 GB RAM, 64 GB storage + 4 GB RAM and 64 GB storage + 6 GB RAM are respectively priced at 1,299 Yuan (~Rs. 13,800), 1,499 Yuan (~Rs. 15,900) and 1,699 Yuan (~Rs. 18,000) in China.
Starting from today, the smartphone is available for reservations through Chinese retailers like JD.com, Suning.com and Tmall.com in China. The company did not confirm on its availability at its launch event. However, speculations are rife that the official sales of the phone may begin on May 21.
As of this writing, the Nokia X6 is a China-exclusive. In the near future, HMD Global may make it available in wider markets.
