After announcing the Nokia 7.1 earlie this month, HMD Global has taken the covers off the Nokia X7 at a launch event in China. The device will launch in other markets as the Nokia 7.1 Plus. Similar to other X-series Nokia phones like the Nokia X6 and Nokia X5, the newly announced Nokia X7 is also equipped with a notched screen that offers a 19:9 aspect ratio. Also, it is the first Nokia phone with a Snapdragon 710 chipset.
Design and Display
The Nokia X7 is fitted with glass panels on its front and rear with a metallic frame made out of 6000-series magnesium alloy. Its dimensions are 154.8 x 75.7 x 7.97mm and it weighs 185 grams. The volume rocker and power button are placed on the right side, whereas the SIM card tray can be found on the left edge of the device. An external speaker and USB-C port are available on the bottom edge of the Nokia X7. There is a 3.5mm audio jack on the top edge of the smartphone. A fingerprint scanner is available on the rear side of the Nokia X7.
The Nokia X7 smartphone is fitted with a 6.18-inch IPS LCD screen. There is a wide notch on top of the display which houses a selfie camera, earpiece and some other sensors. The screen of the Nokia X7 produces full HD+ resolution of 2246 x 1080 pixels. The smartphone offers a screen-to-body ratio of 86.5 percent and an aspect ratio of 18.7:9. The Nokia X7’s display supports DCI-P3 color gamut, HDR video playback and 600 nits of brightness.
Chipset and Software
The Snapdragon 710 SoC powering the device is an octa-core processor clocked at 2.2 GHz. The device comes in 64 GB and 128 GB storage models, paired with 4 GB and 6 GB RAM respectively. The smartphone supports additional storage via microSD (hybrid SIM).
The Nokia X7 runs Android 9 Pie, and is an Android One smartphone which means it will enjoy two software upgrades and three years of security updates. The smartphone includes a 3,400mAh battery that is equipped with support for Quick Charge 3.0 through USB Type-C.
Cameras and Other Features
A vertical dual camera module is placed on the rear shell of the Nokia X7. It includes an f/1.8 aperture 12-megapixel Sony IMX363 main sensor that is assisted by a 13-megapixel secondary lens. An LED flash can be seen on the side of the dual camera unit. The dual cameras are equipped with Optical Image Stabilization and AI intelligent scene detection features. The camera algorithm present on the X7 ensures that it captures impressive images in dim-light conditions.
For shooting selfies, the handset offers its users an f/1.8 aperture 20-megapixel selfie camera. The selfie snapper supports features like AI beauty, AI portrait mode, AI studio lights and dual-view mode. The front camera also offers a face unlock feature. As far as photography is concerned, the front and rear cameras are blessed with AI capabilities for capturing images with a bokeh effect and beautified selfie shots. The other features that are available on the smartphone include dual-SIM (hybrid) support, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac and Bluetooth 5.0.
Nokia X7 Pricing and Availability
The Nokia X7 has arrived in China in three models – 64 GB storage + 4 GB RAM, 64 GB storage + 6 GB RAM and 128 GB storage + 6 GB RAM. These models are priced at 1,699 Yuan (~Rs. 18,000), 1,999 Yuan (~Rs. 21,000) and 2,499 Yuan (~Rs. 27,000) respectively.
The Nokia X7 can be bought in colors like Dark Blue, Night Red, Magic Night Silver and Magic Night Black. The handset is available on pre-order through multiple channels in China. It will be hitting the shelves on October 23rd.
The Finnish firm did not confirm on the international availability of the smartphone at the launch event, but we can expect the device to make its way to India soon as the Nokia 7.1 Plus.
