Non-Pro iPhone 15 models tipped to come with Dynamic Island but miss out on ProMotion display

  • iPhone 15’s display features have started surfacing online
  • The entire next-generation lineup is tipped to come with Dynamic Island
  • However, the non-Pro models will still lack a 120Hz ProMotion display

Apple recently unveiled its flagship iPhone 14 series comprising of standard, Plus, Pro and Pro Max models. However, the rumour mill has already started churning out predictions about the next-generation iPhone 15 series.

Display Supply Chain analyst Ross Young has claimed that the entire iPhone 15 lineup will come with a striking feature that is present on the iPhone 14 Pro models. Apple widened the gap between this year’s non-Pro iPhone 14 and Pro models.

The entire iPhone 15 lineup tipped to come with a pill-shaped cutout

The main differences between the non-Pro iPhone 14 and Pro models are in terms of display and processor. The former retains the same notch design found on the iPhone 13 whereas the Pro variants feature a pill-shaped cutout called ‘Dynamic Island’. Additionally, the non-Pro models are also powered by the same A15 processor as their predecessor. This makes the iPhone 14 an incremental upgrade from the iPhone 13.

Things are tipped to change with the next year’s iPhone 15 series. Supply Chain analyst Ross Young says that Apple will incorporate the Dynamic Island on all iPhone 15 models and not just limited to the Pro variants. If this turns out to be true, the feature will be mainstream across all iPhones and will replace the notch that was introduced on the iPhone X way back in 2017. The Cupertino-based giant has cleverly integrated Dynamic Island with its software UI that makes the pill-shaped cutout appear larger when a user interacts with it. It is an interactive area that displays notifications, music control playback, and live activities like sports scores.

While Dynamic Island is expected to become mainstream on the regular iPhone 15 models, Young adds that they will however lack a 120Hz LTPO display with support for ProMotion and an always-on display. It will still be limited to the Pro models. The reason is that supply chains can’t support the LTPO display.
