- Nothing ear (1) finally launched in India
- The TWS earbuds are the debut product from Carl Pei’s new venture
- The Nothing ear (1) will go on sale in India starting August 17th
Nothing ear (1), the first product from Carl Pei’s new hardware startup, is now official. After teasing the device for several weeks, the startup has launched the true wireless earbuds and has confirmed that it will be available for purchase in India, the US, the UK and Europe.
With the launch of the ear (1), Nothing has not only made a product but is also entering a crowded market. The significance of the true wireless earbuds market is that it does not look like a winner takes all market. So, Nothing could emerge as a real disruptor and there is a lot going for it including a founder who is popular in both emerging markets as well as established ones.
Nothing ear (1) price in India and other markets
Nothing ear (1) is priced at Rs 5,999 in India, the lowest price you can find anywhere in the world. At the launch today, Nothing also confirmed the price of the ear (1) for the US, the UK and European markets. In the US, it is priced at $99 (~ Rs 7,374) while the TWS earbuds will retail for €99 (~ Rs 8,689) and £99 (~ Rs 10,169) in Europe and the UK respectively.
Nothing ear (1) sale date and where to buy
In India, the Nothing ear (1) will be available for purchase starting 12pm on August 17th. Those interested in Nothing’s first true wireless earbuds will be able to buy the device on Flipkart. Nothing doesn’t seem to plan to sell the product via any other retail channels in the country. While the ear (1) brings a fresh design to the TWS market, customers will have to wait before they are able to buy the device.
Nothing ear (1) specifications and features
The biggest selling point of Nothing ear (1) is its design which aims to strike clear of existing AirPods clones in the market. It still has an in-ear design with a stem but offers a translucent design. Nothing says that the design exposes the microphones, magnets and circuit board. The transparent carrying case, on the other hand, looks nothing short of a jewellery design.
While most true wireless headphones make heads turn because they look like AirPods, Nothing is making it certain that people don’t look at them for the same reason. Each earbud weighs 4.7 grams and Nothing says the red colour signal will indicate the ‘Right’ earbud. They also come with customisable liquid silicone tips for an ergonomic fit.
Beyond the design, Nothing partnered with Teenage Engineering and has managed to house an 11.6mm driver in these earbuds. Nothing claims that these earbuds are tuned to deliver “balanced bass, mid, and treble performance“. It relies on Bluetooth 5.2 for connection and can be used with both Android and iOS with the help of the ear (1) app.
While it’s priced at Rs 5,999, it does not skimp on features. There is Active Noise Cancellation that relies on three high definition mics to cancel the background noise. You can also use Light mode for moderate noise cancellation while Maximum mode will tune out sound in noisy environments like an airplane or office.
Like AirPods, there is also a transparency mode to listen to the ambient sound around you. Lastly, Nothing says that Clear Voice Technology helps reduce distractive background noise like wind and allows for loud and clear calls. In terms of battery, each earbud is rated to last for up to 5.7 hours and with the carrying case, the total battery life stretches to 34 hours.
Nothing ear (1) also supports what the company calls ultra-fast charging. It adds up to 8 hours of day’s power with just 10 minutes of charging in the case. The ear (1) also supports wireless charging and is compatible with all Qi chargers. It’s sweat and splash resistant and features in-ear detection, fast pairing and gesture control. Nothing ear (1) is like a beginner’s test and it packs a lot of features to justify the delayed launch.
