Nothing’s first-ever smartphone is likely to debut later this month. Carl Pei, who co-founded OnePlus, introduced the Nothing brand in 2021. It unveiled the Nothing Ear (1) TWS earbuds with a unique transparent design as its first product back in July 2021.
In the past few months, the rumour mill has been speculating that the company may also launch a smartphone in the future. Nothing has now confirmed that it will be holding a launch event on March 23rd, 2022. It appears that the long-rumoured Nothing smartphone may go official at the upcoming event.
Nothing confirms its next launch event
Nothing has announced its next event, called “The Truth”, on March 23rd at 7:30 PM. The teaser video for the event asks, “What if 2021 was just a warm up?,” which indicates that the company may launch a couple of new products this year. Nothing has confirmed that it will reveal its 2022 roadmap and a new community investment round through the upcoming event. To get a notification before the livestream begins, readers can visit the company’s website and enter their email address.

Recently, reputed tipster Evan Blass leaked an image where Pei can be seen showing a mysterious smartphone to Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon. According to TechCrunch, Pei showcased a prototype of the device at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2022 to several key executives.
Probably, it could be a flagship phone powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 mobile platform. The image suggests that Nothing’s first smartphone will have a boxy design and a camera module placed at the upper-left corner of the back panel.
Nothing announces Series B fundraise
Nothing raised $15 million in Series A funding in October 2021 to expand its team and operations, invest in R&D, and launch its community and first products. Now, the company has announced its Series B funding led by EQT Ventures and C Ventures, with participation from GV (formerly known as Google Ventures), Tony Fadell’s Future Shape, Gaorong Capital, and Animoca Brands. The company said in its press release that the funding will be used to scale its product ecosystem and establish its London Design Hub.
“With this round of financing, we have the fuel to realise the next phase of our vision of a seamless digital future,” said Carl Pei, Nothing CEO and Co-founder. “I’m grateful for the support from our community and investors. Our first year was a warmup, and we can’t wait to reveal what we’re building at Nothing during the upcoming event.”
