Carl Pei’s new company Nothing is all set to launch its first smartphone, the Nothing Phone (1) today. After months of leaks, rumours and unprecedented hype, the Nothing Phone (1) is finally breaking cover at an event in London. The smartphone will be launched globally, including in the Indian market.
The Nothing Phone (1) is expected to slot in the mid-range and compete with the likes of the OnePlus Nord 2T, the Realme GT 2, and the Samsung Galaxy A53. The much-hyped device is set to come with a dual-camera setup, a unique design with light strips underneath the semi-transparent back panel, 33W charging and more. Let us take a look at how to watch the launch event of the Nothing Phone (1) live as well as its expected features, specifications, and most importantly, price.
Nothing Phone (1): How to watch launch event live and expected price
The Nothing Phone (1) launch event is boldly called “Nothing (event): Return to Instinct”. This event will be live-streamed on Nothing’s official website as well as the company’s official YouTube channel. The event is scheduled for July 12 at 11 AM ET (8:30 PM IST).
The Nothing Phone (1) is expected to arrive in three variants: 8GB RAM + 128GB storage, 8GB RAM + 256GB storage, and 12GB RAM + 256GB storage. While the official pricing is yet to be revealed, many reports suggest a starting price of around Rs 30,000. However, A Twitter user named Rahul Shah recently shared an image of the Nothing Phone (1)’s listing on Flipkart, which indicated a starting price of Rs 34,999. This might be a fake image and thus should be taken with a grain of salt. The handset will be available for purchase through Flipkart in India. It might also be sold offline via Reliance Digital.
Nothing Phone (1): Specifications, features and expected price
The Nothing Phone (1) will feature a 6.55-inch OLED screen with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, a 4,500mAh battery, and 33W fast charging. The company founder, Carl Pei, has revealed that the device will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 778G+ chipset. As mentioned above, the Nothing Phone (1) will be available in three variants – one with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage, a mid-tier one with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage, and a top-of-the-line version with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage.
Nothing has also confirmed that the Nothing Phone (1) will feature a dual-camera setup at the back with a 50-megapixel Sony IMX766 sensor with an f/1.88 aperture alongside an ultrawide camera. Rumours claim the retail packaging of the Nothing Phone (1) may not include a charging adapter, which, if true, will be a shame. The smartphone is expected to run Android 12 with Nothing OS – the company’s proprietary skin – on top, which is said to be very close to stock Android with little to no bloatware.
One of the smartphone’s biggest talking points is its unique design, courtesy of a set of light strips underneath a semi-transparent back panel. There are 4 LED strips – one surrounding the rear camera unit, a C-shaped one around the wireless charging coil, one that looks like an exclamation mark at the bottom, and a slanted strip at the top-right corner. These LEDs – over 900 in total – can pulse to show notifications as well as the charging status. The lights can also flash in time with 10 preloaded ringtones. Nothing calls these lights the “GLYPH Interface”. Other design elements include a punch-hole display as well as a glass back panel. Both the display and rear panel feature Gorilla Glass protection.
