In the aforementioned tweet, Pei highlights the importance of software support for the Nothing brand. Additionally, he announced that users of Phone (1) would receive the Nothing OS 2.0 update by the end of August.

Nothing OS 2.0: what to expect?

In a recent interview, Mladen M. Hoyss, Nothing’s Software Creative Director, said the company prioritises “functional aesthetics” in Nothing OS 2.0, aiming to present data in a visually appealing and easily comprehensible way while avoiding information overload.

Instead of providing a grid of app icons on the homescreen, Nothing OS 2.0 will focus on delivering a personalised experience that exceeds superficial customization options that are offered by other brands. With Nothing OS 2.0, there will be no need to do extensive scrolling or deep navigation to find the desired information. Personalised content will be readily available on Nothing OS 2.0.

The company is yet to launch the Nothing OS 2.0 update. The company is expected to announce it alongside the Nothing Phone (2) on July 11th. The Phone (1) is entitled to receive 3 years of Android updates and 4 years of security patches. The device debuted with the Android 12 OS onboard and has already received the Android 13 OS upgrade.

The upcoming Nothing Phone (2) is expected to come preloaded with Nothing OS 2.0. It is confirmed to receive three years of Android OS upgrades and four years of security updates.
