Nothing Phone (2) launch timeframe has been officially confirmed by Nothing CEO and co-founder Carl Pei. In an interview with Inverse, Pei revealed that the Phone (2) will debut “later” this year. While it is expected to launch in India, the US will be the company’s number one priority in terms of markets this year.
To recall, Nothing released its first product, named the Ear (1), in July 2021. In 2022, the company released the Nothing Phone (1) and Ear (stick) TWS earbuds. Like the first-generation model, the Phone (2) is expected to continue to sport a transparent design.

Nothing to enter the US market in 2023

Nothing Phone (1)
In a December 2022 interview with CNBC, Pei stated that the Nothing Phone (2) will not be released anytime soon. At that time, he also mentioned that the brand was planning to enter the US market and was in early discussions with American carriers. Talking about entering the US market, Pei said in the latest interview, “We couldn’t do it earlier because we were only in our second year and our hands were tied building the team as we were building the products. “Now as we’re on a more solid footing, we can take a step forward.”
At present, the brand is only selling its TWS earbuds in the US. Since the company did not have the resources, it could not make a smartphone for the US market. Now that the company’s workforce has grown from 200 people in 2021 to 400 today, it aims to achieve one third of its smartphone sales from the US market. Currently, the US accounts for a third of all sales when it comes to its TWS earbuds.
Nothing Phone (2): What to expect
The Nothing Phone (2) will be a “more premium” smartphone as compared to the Nothing Phone (1), reveals Pei. He added that providing good software support for the phone will be a big focus of the company. When the company began working on the Phone (1), it had only five engineers, because of which it had to outsource Nothing OS’s development. However, now that it has nearly 100 employees in the software team, it aims to offer a better software experience to the users.
Pei said, “Mobile chipsets have really improved over the last 7–9 years. That’s why I want to avoid calling the Phone (2) a flagship, because that would mean that the Phone (1) was not a flagship. Within our own portfolio of smartphones, the Phone (1) was very much a flagship in terms of the amount of care we put into the product. That’s why I used the word ‘premium’ [to describe the Phone (2)] instead, which signifies that it’s a more premium step up, but it’s still a flagship just like the Phone (1).” This indicates that the Phone (2) could be an upper midrange phone like the Phone (1). Just as the predecessor model offered something unique, such as an LED layout on the back (dubbed the “Glyph interface” by Nothing) and a cleaner software experience, the successor model may offer something similar to the user.
Since the Phone (2) will launch later this year, the company is expected to confirm more details about it in the coming months. Nothing opened its first retail store in London, UK, in December. The company is also planning to open more stores across the world.
