Nubia Alpha Launch in China Set for April 8

Ahead of its formal launch in China, Nubia today opened reservations for the Nubia Alpha on its online store as well as other leading Chinese e-commerce platforms such as, Suning, Tmall, and more. Nubia has announced that early birds will enjoy six interest-free installments and a free Bluetooth headset with their purchase. As expected, the company has not confirmed the pricing of the wearable just yet. We will need to wait until April 8th to find out the pricing as well as availability details.

While Nubia is marketing the Alpha as a smartphone, it is actually more of a smartwatch. As mentioned above, the Nubia Alpha comes with an impressive 4-inch flexible OLED display with 960 x 192 resolution and a 5:1 aspect ratio. The wearable runs on the now outdated Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 quad-core chipset clocked at 1.1 GHz with an Adreno 304 GPU. As for memory, the Nubia Alpha includes 1GB of RAM and 8GB of onboard storage. Unsurprisingly, there is no microSD card slot for further expansion.

Aside from the large flexible display, the other major highlight of the wearable is its 5MP camera with an f/2.2 aperture lens. The internals of the wearable are powered by a 500mAh capacity battery, which is claimed to help deliver up to two days of battery life with regular usage. In terms of software, the Nubia Alpha runs on the manufacturer’s custom Android-based operating system. Apart from a standard Bluetooth version, the Nubia Alpha will also be sold in a variant with eSIM support.
