In March this year, nubia had launched the Red Magic 5G gaming smartphone. Now the brand has announced the Red Magic 5S with an upgraded cooling system. The latest offering retains the rest of the spec sheet from its former model.
The Red Magic 5S is equipped with a silver-plated heat sink called ICE Ag (Ice Age). It is paired with with a centrifugal fan claimed to deliver better cooling performance compared to smartphones that come with conventional copper heat pipes. Nubia says that the air duct is also 56 percent larger than the previous generation. The smartphone also retains the 15,000 RPM fan from the Red Magic 5G variant.
Red Magic 5S specifications and features
The Red Magic 5S features a 6.65-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate panel and a 240Hz touch sampling rate. The gaming smartphone comes with an in-screen fingerprint scanner, capacitive trigger buttons and a dual-tone coloured back panel. The Red Magic 5S sports a triple rear camera setup comprising a 64MP Sony IMX686 main sensor, 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens and a 2MP macro shooter. The devices features an 8MP front-facing camera.
Internally, the Red Magic 5S is powered by Snapdragon 865 processor. It is paired with up to 16GB LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB UFS 3.1 onboard storage. The latest offering comes with GPU Boost that allows games to be played with fewer lags. The smartphone is backed by a 4,500mAh battery unit with support for 55W fast charging. The Red Magic 5S runs Red Magic OS based on Android 10. It supports WiFi 6, dual-frequency GPS, 3.5mm jack and a USB-C port.
Red Magic 5S pricing and availability
The Red Magic 5S costs RMB 3,799 (~Rs 40,350) for the 8GB + 128GB variant. The 12GB + 256GB and 16GB + 256GB configurations carry a price tag of RMB 4,399 (~Rs 46,700) and RMB 4,999 (~Rs 53,000) respectively. The device can be availed in Ice Wind Silver and Cyber Neon colour options. The gaming smartphone is up for pre-orders and will go on sale on 1st August via nubia’s online store, offline experience stores and on JD.com.
