Highlights

  • Ola’s upcoming electric car will only arrive by 2024
  • The company didn’t reveal how much the EV will cost
  • Ola also revealed the S1 electric scooter with a price tag of Rs 1 lakh

Following months of hype and anticipation, Ola Electric officially provided new details on its electric car. While the company didn’t share any official images of the new EV, we already know courtesy of teasers posted by Ola that it will belong to the sedan form factor.

In its announcement today, the manufacturer said the car will launch by the summer of 2024, and provide up to 500 kilometres of range using the home-grown Li-ion battery. Additionally, Ola Electric also said that the car will feature a drag coefficient of 0.21Cd.

On the design front, we know that the headlamps will include a LED bar with the company logo lit up. The company shared that the Ola EV will come with an all-glass roof, while it will provide keyless entry and will apparently lack handles.

Claims of this EV being the sportiest car built in the country were reiterated during the event. The new EV can reportedly reach 0 to 100 kmph in less than 4 seconds. We also learn that the upcoming electric car will run on the MoveOS software. This also happens to be the default software for Ola’s electric scooters, though we expect the operating system to be significantly different from its two-wheeler counterpart. Assisted driving functionality will be included with this EV, the company said.

Unfortunately, Ola didn’t share information on pricing or variants, but the company will likely have more details as we inch closer to 2024.

In addition to offering new information on the Ola electric car, the company also took the wraps off the Ola S1, to complement the S1 Pro. Interested customers can book the Ola S1 starting today by paying a fee of Rs 499. The scooter will sell for an introductory price of Rs 99,999, the company said, with availability slated for September 2.

“Last year we made a humble penetration into the EV ecosystem with our Ola S1 Pro, due to this, EV Penetration in India has gone up to 5 percent this year from 1 percent last year…today we want to take EV revolution to the next level and democratise EV scooter ownership in India,” Ola Electric CEO and co-founder, Bhavish Aggarwal said.
