It was confirmed by the company last year that it is working on a new unified OS by merging its OxygenOS and OPPO’s ColorOS. OnePlus 10 Pro to ship with OxygenOS 12.1

OnePlus is yet to confirm the OnePlus 10 Pro launch date. Since it is set to launch by March-end in multiple markets including India, the company is likely to release its teasers in a week or two. Last month, OnePlus confirmed that the OnePlus 10 Pro’s global edition will run on OxygenOS. It is now confirmed that the device will come with OxygenOS 12.1 preinstalled, and it will be treated with the OxygenOS 13 update in future.

OxygenOS 13 details revealed

In 2021, OnePlus confirmed that the unified OS will offer a smooth, clean, reliable, and feature-rich user experience. For the unified OS experience, the software codebase of the OxygenOS was merged with ColorOS. The first glimpse of the integrated OS was seen on the OxygenOS 11.3, which was made available on OnePlus Nord 2 last year. Later when the OxygenOS 12 was released, it was found that it is nothing but a rebranded version of the ColorOS 12. The first release of the OxygenOS 12 was plagued with bugs.

Later, the company rolled out the stable OxygenOS 12 build after beta testing it for a couple of months. Various publications reported that it was a half-baked OS rigged with bugs and inconsistencies. With the upcoming OxygenOS 13, OnePlus aims to offer the same kind of experience as its older version. Lau has now confirmed that the company will re-introduce a “light and clean” edition of the OxygenOS, which will offer a “familiar” user experience.

Lau added, “While OxygenOS and ColorOS will continue to be developed on the same codebase – to allow for faster updates and better build quality – OxygenOS and ColorOS will remain independent properties. This new course was taken in accordance with feedback from our community – we understand users of OxygenOS and ColorOS want each operating system to remain separate from each other with their own distinct properties.”

OnePlus 10 Pro specifications (expected)

The OnePlus 10 Pro heading to global markets is likely to pack the same specs that are available on its Chinese variant. It will house a 6.7-inch AMOLED LTPO 2.0 display that offers a QHD+ resolution, a 20:9 aspect ratio, a 120Hz refresh rate, an under-display fingerprint scanner, and Gorilla Glass Victus protection. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 will be powering the OnePlus 10 Pro. It may arrive with up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage in India.

The OnePlus 10 Pro will be equipped with a 5,000mAh battery with support for 80W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. It will house a 32-megapixel front-facing camera and an OIS-enabled 48-megapixel primary camera, a 50-megapixel ultrawide snapper with a 150-degree FOV, and an OIS-assisted 8-megapixel telephoto lens.
