OnePlus revealed their new smartphone OnePlus 5 globally on June 20th. While the phone received some flak for having a close resemblance to iPhone 7 Plus, we all can agree that it’s a performance beast.
Today i.e. on 22nd June, OnePlus launched their flagship device in India. Although most specs were already leaked and the global launch told us everything we needed to know about the phone, the Indian prices were still awaited. Hosting a separate event just to announce the price seems a bit over the top.
Popular tech journalist Rajiv Makhni hosted the event and began with some silly tricks to engage those at the event. The repetitive keynote from the global event seemed too lengthy, especially for those who were just waiting for the Indian prices to be revealed.
Just to run you through what the OnePlus 5 has to offer, let’s take a look at its specifications.
It has a dual camera setup with a 20MP telephoto lens and another 16MP to complement it. On the front, it comes with a 16MP sensor for taking selfies and video calling.
The phone has a metal unibody design and comes with a 5.5 inch Full HD AMOLED display. Design of the phone is heavily ‘inspired’ from the iPhone 7 Plus.
OnePlus 5 is powered by the Snapdragon 835, Qualcomm’s fastest SoC yet. It has the Adreno 540, which promises to provide 25% faster graphic performance when compared to the OnePlus 3T. The phone comes in two variants, a 64GB/6GB RAM model and another laptop level 8GB of RAM with 128GB of internal storage.
OnePlus 5 will also support PayTM Quickpay integration which will allow users to securely pay using PayTM by using the fingerpring scanner.
For the Indian markets, the OnePlus 5 is priced at Rs. 32,999 for the 64GB/6GB model and Rs. 37,999 for the 128GB/8GB variant. The phone can be purchased without an invite and the first sale begins from today (June 22) @ 4:30 PM on Amazon.
