OnePlus has announced that it will showcase a prototype smartphone with 5G capabilities during MWC 2019. The smartphone will run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 octa-core processor and the attendees will be allowed to have a gaming experience on the displayed prototype. The event will take place on February 26th with OnePlus’ CEO, Pete Lau presenting the smartphone. He will be joined by Qualcomm’s President – Cristiano R. Amon and EE CEO – Marc Allera.

The company has been preparing since 2016 to launch 5G technology in its smartphones. OnePlus had started its own research lab in the aforementioned year and collaborated with Qualcomm in 2017. A year after this, the company was able to make a 5G connection to Qualcomm Technologies’ laboratory located in San Diego, USA in August 2018. Pete Lau made the world’s first 5G tweet by connecting a prototype device to a 5G Non-standalone Network, via an LTE b7 + 5G NR n78 air interface.
