OnePlus 6T With In-Display Fingerprint Sensor and Waterdrop Notch Launched in India

At an event in New York today, OnePlus has announced its newest flagship, the OnePlus 6T. The device has arrived with several improvements over the OnePlus 6 that was unveiled in May this year. The OnePlus 6T is the company’s first smartphone to arrive with an in-screen fingerprint scanner. It features a smaller notch display than the OnePlus 6. As the company confirmed several weeks ahead of launch, the OnePlus 6T does not feature a 3.5mm headphone jack. Moreover, it has arrived with a bigger battery and new set of camera sensors.

Design and Display

The OnePlus 6T features a waterdrop notch, an in-display fingerprint reader and a vertical dual camera setup. The front and rear sides of the OnePlus 6T are flanked by glass panels. While the OnePlus 6 measures only 7.7mm in thickness, the newer OnePlus 6T phone is slightly thicker at 8.2mm. The handset weighs 185 grams.


The OnePlus 6T features an Optic AMOLED display measuring 6.41 inches with full HD+ resolution and a tall aspect ratio of 19.5:9. The display is equipped with features like screen calibration, adaptive brightness, and night and reading mode.

A highly durable layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protects the display of the smartphone. The optical fingerprint reader that is embedded under the screen of the device is being termed as Screen Unlock. It can also be used to launch specific apps when the screen is unlocked. The smartphone also carries support for face unlock through the front camera that’s placed inside the notch.

Chipset, Storage and Battery

The Snapdragon 845 is at the helm of the OnePlus 6T smartphone. It is available in three variants – 6 GB + 128 GB, 8 GB + 128 GB and 8 GB + 256 GB. There is no 64 GB variant for the OnePlus 6T, and the handset lacks support for the microSD card slot as well.

The OnePlus 6T features a 3,700mAh battery, compared to the 3,300mAh unit on its predecessor. It features Dash Charge 2.0 rapid charging technology.

Cameras and Software

A 16-megapixel Sony IMX371 selfie shooter with f/2.0 aperture resides on the front of the phone. It offers features like EIS, timelapse and full HD video shooting at 30fps.

The back panel of the OnePlus 6T is equipped a vertical dual camera setup. It features Sony IMX519 16-megapixel primary sensor with 1.22micron pixel size, OIS, EIS and f/1.7 aperture. The secondary Sony IMX376 20-megapixel sensor has a pixel size of 1.0micron and f/1.7 aperture. The dual cameras offer features like HDR, timelapse, 4K video recording, 1080p slow-motion video shooting at 240fps. A new photography feature that is available on the OnePlus 6T called Nightscape allows the phone to shoot brighter shots in low-light surroundings by relying on AI.

Android 9 Pie flavoured with OxygenOS comes preloaded on the OnePlus 6T. The OnePlus 6T is also equipped with software features like gaming mode and navigation-based gestures such as lift to wake up, double tap to lock and so on.

Connectivity features like dual-SIM, 4G VoLTE, 2×2 MIMO, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth, NFC, GPS and USB Type-C are available on the OnePlus 6T. OnePlus is providing a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter in the box.

Pricing and Release Date

The OnePlus 6T is available in two colour variants – Midnight Black and Mirror Black. It is priced at Rs 37,999 for the 6GB + 128 GB variant, Rs 41,999 for the 8 GB+ 128GB model and Rs 45,999 for the 8 GB + 256 GB version. The device will go on sale starting November 1st via Amazon India and
