On: April 14, 2020

While many brands have postponed their smartphone launches amidst the coronavirus pandemic, OnePlus doesn’t have any plans of slowing down. The company has launched its latest flagships, the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro on schedule, although this time, through an online-only livestreamed event. Notably, due to the current lockdown situation in India, OnePlus will not be able to sell its latest flagships immediately after launch, and we’ll likely have to wait a few weeks, if not more, before these phones can go on sale. The phones themselves are the most powerful and expensive flagships from the brand so far, bringing in serious upgrades across the board, including high refresh rates, 5G connectivity, punch-hole cameras, wireless charging and more. Here’s everything you need to know about the latest launches.

The OnePlus 8 comes with a 90Hz display, 12GB RAM and Warp Charge 30T

The OnePlus 8 is the more affordable of the duo, but doesn’t skimp on the spec sheet.  The smartphone ships with a 6.55-inch Fluid AMOLED display offering 2,400 x 1,080 pixels resolution, 20:9 aspect ratio, 90Hz refresh rate and support for HDR10+. Ticking at its core is the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC with the X55 5G modem that supports both NSA and SA 5G modes. The processor is backed by up to 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. Under the hood, there is a 4,300mAh battery with support for Warp Charge 30T, which OnePlus claims can charge from 1 percent to 50 percent in just 22 minutes.

OnePlus 8 Pro specifications and features

HDR10+, HDR boost and 10-bit colour accuracy are also present, as is MEMC technology to scale standard videos at 24fps up to 120fps for a stunning viewing experience. Notably, this is the first OnePlus phone to come with wireless charging. The Pro is compatible with the Warp Charge 30 Wireless charger, which can juice it up from 1 percent to 50 percent in just 30 minutes. The OnePlus 8 Pro also supports reverse wireless charging, letting you charge headphones or other smartphones.

Another key feature of the OnePlus 8 Pro is an IP68 rating, which means its both waterproof and dust-proof. The smartphone also comes with LPDDR5 RAM to ensure faster app loading time and smoother multitasking. The smartphone will also feature integrated support for Amazon’s Alexa, Stadia, Google’s Live Caption and free 100GB Google One cloud storage for 3 months.. The remaining features of OnePlus 8 Pro are the same as the vanilla OnePlus 8 model.
