Yesterday OnePlus announced that it is launching its upcoming flagship series on April 14th through an online-only event. Like the OnePlus 7 and 7T series, the OnePlus 8 lineup will consist of a standard and Pro variant. However, the brand hasn’t revealed if it will launch the rumoured mid-range OnePlus 8 Lite as well. The handset will reportedly arrive sometime later this year. Now, XDA Developer’s Max Weinbach has claimed that the OnePlus 8 Lite may debut as the OnePlus Z. It will follow the OnePlus X that was launched way back in 2015.
The source referred to it as "OnePlus Z" and said the hardware matched the previous OnePlus 8 Lite render. https://t.co/zB5PN9nQjW

The tweet reveals that OnePlus is planning to introduce mid-range smartphones under a new series. Weinbach’s unnamed source referred to the phone as the OnePlus Z, and the specifications of the device matched the previous OnePlus 8 Lite render. Additionally, tipster Ishan Agarwal also tweeted that the cheaper OnePlus phone may be launched under the new OnePlus Z series.
OnePlus Z specifications and features
If the OnePlus Z is indeed the OnePlus 8 Lite, we have an idea of its key specifications. It is expected to feature a 6.5-inch AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate. The leaked renders revealed the device will feature a different design compared to the standard and Pro variants of OnePlus 8. The OnePlus Z will sport a punch-hole cutout at top-centre, and a triple camera setup in a rectangular module on the back. The smartphone is expected to sport 48MP + 16MP + 12MP rear cameras.
The OnePlus Z will be reportedly powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 1000 processor with support for 5G connectivity. It will pack up to 8GB RAM and 256GB onboard storage. The smartphone is expected to be backed by a 4,000mAh battery with 30T Warp charging support.
Previous reports have suggested that the OnePlus Z is expected to be priced at £400 (~Rs 37,500) but it may debut at a slightly lower price tag in India.
