Just a while ago, we reported that the OnePlus Warp Charge 30 Wireless Charger had surfaced in leaked images. The company’s upcoming OnePlus 8 Pro is confirmed to arrive with a 120Hz display, top-of-the-line Snapdragon 865 processor with 5G connectivity, LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.0 storage. Now, after recent leaks and rumours, the brand has indeed confirmed that the OnePlus 8 series will support wireless charging. The company has detailed the wireless charging solution in a forum post on its official website. It’s worth noting that OnePlus hasn’t mentioned if both the standard and Pro variants of OnePlus 8 will feature wireless charging, however, judging by past rumours, only the Pro variant will receive this feature.

OnePlus has also revealed details about its Warp Charge 30 Wireless charger
OnePlus calls its wireless charger ‘Warp Charge 30 Wireless’. The company says that it combined the industry’s first isolated charge pump with a Warp wireless direct charging architecture. To maintain a stable charge and keep the phone safe, the isolated charge pump deactivates charging when it detects fluctuation in voltage or currents. The wireless charging tech is claimed to top up the phone’s battery from zero to 50 percent in 30 minutes. The device offers 30W charging speeds, which is much faster than the usual wireless chargers. Currently, only Xiaomi and OPPO offer 30W wireless charging speeds, with the former offering it in its recently launched Mi 10 smartphone.
The Warp Charge 30 Wireless will also double up as a regular Qi wireless charger meaning, (Qi-compatible) phones apart from OnePlus 8 will be capable of charging at 5W using the charger. Similarly, OnePlus 8 series users can charge their devices at 10W speeds on any Qi charger that supports the 10W EPP standard.
OnePlus CEO Pete Lau in an interview with The Verge revealed that the Warp Charge 30 Wireless will come with an inbuilt fan for heat dissipation. He added that it could generate 30db noise, but the smartphone will feature a night mode option that will switch off the fan and reduce charging speeds. Lau said that the communication between the phone and the charger is the most important part of the whole system. If things get hot, the charger will reduce its output.
OnePlus will reveal the price of the Warp Charge 30 Wireless alongside the OnePlus 8 series launch. It’s safe to assume that it will be expensive. “The cost of materials is certainly higher than what we could expect for most traditional Qi chargers, “but we’ve done what we can to make the price of the charger as reasonable as possible.” Lau said.
