Smartphone makers like Huawei, OPPO, Xiaomi and Samsung have incorporated wireless charging technology in their flagship offerings. However, OnePlus has stayed away from this feature for a long time. There are still a few months until the launch of the company’s upcoming OnePlus 8 series. And now a new rumour suggests that the premium OnePlus 8 Pro could be the first smartphone in the brand’s portfolio to come with wireless charging support. A Twitter tipster going by the name Max J has shared a representational image of the phone charging wirelessly on a circular shaped charging mat.

The tweet caption reads ‘charge like a pro’ which hints at the feature that may be exclusive to the OnePlus 8 Pro. Although the tipster doesn’t mention the name of the device, the image and caption make the reference clear.
After the launch of OnePlus 7T last year, CEO Pete Lau had claimed that the smartphone doesn’t support wireless charging because it is not as fast as its proprietary Wrap Charge speed. At MWC 2019, Lau had also reportedly said that OnePlus’s Warp charging is one of the best and wireless charging is far inferior. In the past, OnePlus was believed to be working on resolving the heating issues associated with its wireless charging tech and it seems that the technology could finally arrive on the upcoming OnePlus 8 Pro. The addition of this feature also means that the smartphone could arrive at an expensive price tag.
This is just a rumour and we expect more information to crop up in the coming months.
OnePlus 8 Pro specifications and features
Recently, the live images of OnePlus 8 Pro revealed a 120Hz refresh rate panel and a punch-hole cutout at the top left corner. Users will also get the option to switch between 60Hz, 90Hz, and 120Hz screen refresh rates without changing the resolution. The smartphone is expected to feature a curved AMOLED display measuring 6.5-inches. It is tipped to sport a quad rear camera setup comprising of either a 64MP or 108MP primary shooter accompanied by an ultra-wide-angle lens, telephoto sensor and a third ToF camera.
Under the hood, the OnePlus 8 Pro is expected to be powered by Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 865 SoC. It is rumoured to arrive in two RAM and storage configurations of up to 12GB and 256GB respectively.
Alongside the Pro variant, OnePlus is also expected to announce the standard OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Lite. The lineup may be unveiled by the end of first half of 2020.
