OnePlus is gearing up to unveil its flagship OnePlus 8 series on April 14th. The lineup will include a standard and Pro variant. The smartphones will arrive with significant upgrades compared to their predecessors. The OnePlus 8 series is already confirmed to come with 5G connectivity and a 120Hz Fluid Display that was announced earlier in January. The tagline for the OnePlus 8 series is #LeadWithSpeed. Now on the company’s official OnePlus forum, CEO Pete Lau has detailed the hardware of the upcoming flagship smartphones.
Under the hood, the OnePlus 8 series will house Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 865 processor with an integrated X55 modem for 5G connectivity. The processor is confirmed to be paired with the latest LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.0 storage technology. Lau states that this will be the brand’s most powerful hardware setup to date providing increased system performance and reduced power consumption.
LPDDR5 RAM is said to offer a data transfer rate of 6,400Mbps at a bandwidth of 51.2GB/s. Compared to the previous generation, it is also more power efficient. Coming to storage, the UFS 3.0 standard was used on the OnePlus 7 series. But the brand has taken it a step further by adding Turbo Write and Host Performance Booster. With the former, each read/write memory will enter a high-speed buffer and then proceed to the next command of data transfer. The HPB is said to further improve the random read performance after extended use.
OnePlus says that for a better flagship smartphone experience, it has also focussed on software optimisations for maximising the performance of the hardware combination by adding features that matter.
The OnePlus 8 series are shaping up to be powerful smartphones. It’s just two weeks for the launch event where we will learn more about these flagship devices.
