Earlier this month, we reported that the OnePlus 8 series would debut in the second week of April. Now the brand has officially announced on Twitter that it is unveiling its upcoming smartphones on April 14th. Users in India can livestream the event at 8:30pm on oneplus.in/launch. The tagline of the upcoming OnePlus 8 series is #LeadWithSpeed. The brand has also put up a “Notify me” page on Amazon, suggesting that the smartphone will be exclusively available on the shopping platform, apart from its own website. Notably, earlier today, the OnePlus 7T Pro was reportedly discontinued on the company’s official website and major e-commerce platforms in China.

Like its predecessors, OnePlus is expected to debut the standard and Pro variants of OnePlus 8. It’s unknown whether the brand will launch the mid-range OnePlus 8 Lite at the same event. OnePlus CEO Pete Lau had said that the OnePlus 8 series will feature a higher price tag, but it won’t be anywhere near the $1,000 (~Rs 75,000) mark. We expect OnePlus to share more announcements leading up to the launch event.
OnePlus 8 series specifications and features
The OnePlus 8 series have been leaked plenty of times, leaving nothing to the imagination. The smartphones will follow up the OnePlus 7 series with upgraded specifications and features. Both the standard and Pro variants are confirmed to sport a punch-hole AMOLED display with in-screen fingerprint scanners. While the Pro variant will feature a 120Hz refresh rate, the standard OnePlus 8 will offer a 90Hz refresh rate. The smartphones will be powered by the flagship Snapdragon 865 processor with support for dual-mode 5G connectivity. They will pack up to 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB UFS 3.1 storage. The Pro model is confirmed to feature a quad-camera setup, while the vanilla variant will have triple rear cameras.
The OnePlus 8 series are tipped to arrive in three colour variant – Interstellar Glow, Glacial Green and Onyx Black. They are also expected to feature an IP68 rating and support wireless charging.
On the other hand, the OnePlus 8 Lite will reportedly come with a 90Hz AMOLED display and a centre-aligned punch-hole camera. It is rumoured to be powered by MediaTek Dimensity 1000 processor with up to 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. The device is expected to sport a triple camera setup in a rectangular module, unlike previous OnePlus smartphones.
