For a while now, there have been rumours about an affordable OnePlus smartphone launching this year. The reports have called the phone the OnePlus 8 Lite, OnePlus Z and most recently, the OnePlus Nord. The new smartphone is expected to succeed the mid-range OnePlus X, which was launched back in 2015.

Now, the company’s CEO Pete Lau has confirmed a new affordable smartphone series in a blog post on OnePlus forums. Lau had previously tweeted an image of the OnePlus logo in a blue colour instead of red, with the caption hinting at a new product launch.

Lau announced that the upcoming affordable smartphone lineup will be launched in Europe and India first. OnePlus will also launch the new phones in North America soon after.
“Never Settle has always been at the core of OnePlus. For more than 6 years, that has meant working hard to always deliver the best experience for flagship smartphone users. However, as we’ve grown together with our community, we know that there are many people who want a really solid smartphone that meets their everyday needs, and for a more accessible price,” Lau said in the post.
Lau also linked to an Instagram handle that will be providing updates on the new phones. The Instagram account is called ‘OnePluslitezthing‘, which seems to be a mashup of the rumoured names of the device. It’s a private account, which is presumably to add to the intrigue.
Since the blog post specifically mentions a product line-up, we can expect more than one smartphone to be announced, unlike the OnePlus X which was a standalone device.
