OnePlus has entered the fitness tracker segment and launched its first-ever fitness tracker called OnePlus Band in India today. The OnePlus Band features the conventional fitness band form factor and comes with standard fitness and health tracking features found on budget fitness trackers. The fitness band will be made available for sale from January 13th.
The OnePlus Band has been priced at Rs 2,499 in India, which is the same as Mi Smart Band 5 and thus directly competes with the Xiaomi offering. The Mi Smart Band 5 is wconsidered the best budget fitness wearable available in the market at the moment. However, the OnePlus Band 5 comes with a few advantages over the Mi offering. OnePlus Band vs Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 5: price in India
As mentioned before, the OnePlus Band and Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 5 are both priced at Rs 2,499 in India. The former will be made available starting January 13, 2021, and comes in a single black colour option. OnePlus is also offering Tangerine Gray and Navy dual-coloured straps separately at Rs 399 each.
The band will be available at OnePlus.in, OnePlus Store App, Amazon.in, Flipkart.com, OnePlus exclusive offline stores, and partner outlets. The Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 5 is available in Black, Teal, Navy Blue, Orange, and Purple colours. It can be purchased from mi.com, Amazon, and Mi Home Stores.
OnePlus Band vs Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 5: design and display
Both the OnePlus Band Mi Smart Band 5 have a two-component design comprising of the strap and the display capsule. The Mi Smart Band 5 has a pill-like shape and a capacitive button below the display for navigation. On the other hand, the OnePlus Band has a more rectangular form factor with no buttons.
The Mi Smart Band 5 comes with a magnetic charger, eliminating the need to remove the display core in order to charge. The OnePlus Band features the proprietary wired cradle charger — just like the Mi Band 4 — that requires users to remove the core to charge it.
Both Mi Smart Band 5 and OnePlus Band are 5ATM water-resistant, which means they can survive underwater up to 50 meters. The OnePlus Band also features an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance.
Coming to the display, both the OnePlus Band and Mi Smart Band 5 have AMOLED displays measuring 1.1-inch with 294 x 126 pixels resolution.
With all aspects of design and display similar to a large extent, the Mi Smart Band 5 comes out on top here with its magnetic charging, which adds to the convenience.

Coming to the fitness tracking features, the OnePlus band features 13 workout modes including outdoor run, indoor run, fat burn run, outdoor walk, outdoor cycling, indoor cycling, elliptical trainer, rowing machine, cricket, badminton, pool swimming, yoga, and free training. Apart from these, there are health tracking features like a 24/7 heart rate sensor, a SpO2 sensor for blood oxygen level monitoring, and a sleep monitor.
The Mi Mi Smart Band 5 offers 11 workout modes including indoor/outdoor running, indoor/outdoor cycling, outdoor walk, fat reducing running, free training, yoga, elliptical, rowing machine, skipping rope, and indoor bike. It misses out on SpO2 sensor but offers other features like stress monitoring, guided breathing exercise, women’s health tracking (menstrual cycle and ovulation), and Personal Activity Intelligence (PAI).
Coming to the smart features, both the OnePlus Band and Mi Smart Band 5 have a remote camera shutter, app notifications, incoming call and SMS notifications, weather updates, and music control playback. Additionally, both fitness trackers connect to smartphones using Bluetooth 5.0 BLE.
However, while the Mi Smart Band 5 is cross-compatible with Android and iOS (Android 5.0 or iOS 10.0 and above), the OnePlus band only supports Android smartphones running Android 6.0 and above.

Coming to the battery, the OnePlus Band is fitted with a 100mAh battery unit claimed to last up to 14 days. The Mi Smart Band 5, on the other hand, features a slightly bigger 125mAh battery but offers a similar backup of up to 14 days.

With two wins and two ties with the OnePlus Band, the Mi Smart Band 5 emerges as a clear winner here. The band only misses out on SpO2 sensor but has an extensive list of other wellness features, convenient magnetic charging, and compatibility with iOS devices as well. That being said, if you are looking for an affordable fitness tracker with a SpO2 sensor, the OnePlus band is the go-to choice.
