OnePlus had launched its first truly wireless earphones called the OnePlus Buds in July alongside the OnePlus Nord. The audio device workswith OnePlus as well as other smartphones. However, certain features like customising double-tap gestures and firmware updates are currently limited to only OnePlus smartphones.
Now OnePlus is reportedly working on a companion app for the OnePlus Buds. The brand confirmed this in a QnA on the company’s Chinese forum. This will allow users with older OnePlus phones as well as from other manufacturers experience the complete features of the OnePlus Buds.
In the QnA, OnePlus was quoted saying that brand will launch a dedicated app for managing OnePlus audio accessories in the future, which can support Android phones running on 6.0 and above. Older OnePlus phones including OnePlus 3 / 3T / 5 / 5T will also get the double-tap customisation function.
The app will also be able to serve firmware updates for the OnePlus Buds. There is no word regarding the timeline on the availability of the app.
OnePlus Buds specifications and features
The OnePlus Buds are similar to Apple’s AirPods with a semi in-ear design and a long stem. The earbuds are lightweight at 4.6g each and are also IPX4 water-resistant. The Buds offer touch controls and a wear detection feature that automatically pauses music when a bud is removed from your ear. There is also ‘Find my Device’ option that lets users locate lost or misplaced earbuds.
Audio-wise, the OnePlus Buds are equipped with 13.4mm dynamic drivers and environmental noise cancellation technology for phone calls. The wireless earphones feature Dolby Atmos and Bass Boost. The OnePlus Buds are backed by up to 30 hours of battery life with each bud offering seven hours of usage. The wireless earphones support Warp Charge fast charging.
The OnePlus Buds are available at Rs 4,990 and offered in White, Gray and Nord Blue colours.
