OnePlus’ foldable phone to arrive in the second half of 2023

  • OnePlus is working on its first foldable phone
  • Its design was teased at the OnePlus 11 launch event earlier this month
  • It could be similar to the OPPO Find N2 foldable smartphone

OnePlus’ foldable phone will launch in the second half of 2023. The company confirmed its arrival at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2023. This indicates that the device will be stacked against the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, which is expected to launch in August this year.

Samsung has been ruling the foldable market in India as well as other countries. However, it appears that it will soon face competition from brands like OnePlus and Tecno, which have just launched the Phantom V Fold foldable phone in India. At the moment, nothing is known about the OnePlus Fold’s specifications. Some reports have claimed that it could be a rebranded or tweaked version of the OPPO Find N2 foldable phone, which was announced in China in December 2022.

OnePlus is yet to confirm the name of its first foldable phone. However, it is being tentatively dubbed the OnePlus Fold by the rumour mill. However, there is a possibility that it could be called the OnePlus V Fold since the name was spotted in a trademark filing. At the OnePlus 11 launch event, the company confirmed that its first phone will launch in the third quarter of this year.

Kinder Liu, President, and COO of OnePlus said at the MWC 2023 event, “Our first foldable phone will have the signature OnePlus fast and smooth experience. It must be a flagship phone that doesn’t settle because of its folding form, in terms of industrial design, mechanical technology, and other aspects. We want to launch a device that aims to be at the pinnacle experience of today’s foldable market.”

OPPO unveiled the Find N2 and N2 Flip foldable phones in China last year. While the Find N2 Flip has launched globally and is expected to hit the Indian market this month. The Find N2 will remain exclusive to the Chinese market. However, it is likely that the OnePlus Fold could be based on the Find N2.

The Find N2 has a 7.1-inch foldable E6 AMOLED screen that offers a 120Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 1,792 x 1,920 pixels. On the outside, it features a 5.54-inch AMOLED display that offers a 1,080 x 2,120 pixels resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The foldable phone runs on a ColorOS 13-based Android 13 OS. For security, it has a side-facing fingerprint scanner.

The Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 powers the device with up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage. It has a 4,520mAH battery with 67W fast charging. It has a 32-megapixel front camera and a 32-megapixel inner camera. The rear camera setup of the phone comprises a 50-megapixel main camera, a 48-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 32-megapixel telephoto camera.
