OnePlus is expected to launch the OnePlus Nord with a sub-$500 (~Rs 37,000) pricing. In the interview with MKBHD, Pei talked about how OnePlus decided on the different components of the phone in order to make it available with a reasonable price tag. In the interview, Pei was also seen wearing a teal colored version of the upcoming OnePlus Buds.
OnePlus Nord design revealed
Pei revealed that the company explored different rear panel designs for the OnePlus Nord before finalizing on the design shown above. The curved back of the phone features a quad camera unit. It appears that the phone will be arriving in at least two colors such as grey and teal. Pei said that the company felt that launching a handset with a familiar design could help in achieving more sales.
According to Pei, OnePlus decided to not to include features such as NFC that costs around $4 and IP resistance that is priced around $15 in order to keep the cost of the OnePlus Nord affordable. Pei said that the exclusion of 3.5mm audio jack allows the OnePlus Nord to sport a thinner design and have more space for a larger battery. He did not specify the capacity of the Nord’s battery.
Pei said that an AMOLED screen costs around twice as much as an LCD display, but did not reveal why type of screen the Nord will come back. He also added that the costs of 90Hz refresh rate displays have reduced due to high demand, and said that the company has spent a lot on its display to offer a smooth scrolling experience.
