OnePlus Nord N100 has a 90Hz display, company confirms

OnePlus Nord N100, the most affordable entry-level smartphone from the company, does indeed have a 90Hz display. OnePlus has been blowing its own trumpet about high refresh rate displays for sometime now. It refers to displays on its smartphones as “Fluid Displays”, which refers to a refresh rate of 90Hz or higher.

When OnePlus launched the Nord N10 and Nord N100 as affordable smartphones in the Nord series, the display on the N100 was puzzling for many. The OnePlus Nord N10 5G featured a 90Hz display but the Nord N100 was marketed with a 60Hz display. This raised the question of whether OnePlus is backtracking on its own “Fluid Displays” plan for budget devices.

Not helping matters was the fact that the OnePlus Nord N100 was a slightly tweaked version of OPPO A53. The OPPO smartphone comes equipped with a 90Hz display. So, there was always the lingering question of whether the Nord N100 also has a 90Hz display. Now, we have an official confirmation.

OnePlus has officially confirmed that the Nord N100 indeed has a display with 90Hz refresh rate. The confirmation came after Android Authority found a refresh rate selector in the retail unit bought in the UK. “The N100 is equipped with a 90Hz display. Actual refresh rate depends on settings, applications used, and processing limitations,” the company said in a statement.

The confirmation reiterates the fact that OnePlus is serious about offering smartphones with high refresh rate displays across price segments. However, the company is being direct about the reason why it didn’t share this information at the time of the launch. One possible reason could be the overall hardware seen on the device.

It is important to understand that just putting a display with a high refresh rate alone won’t result in a smooth user experience. The chipset used in the device and overall software configuration should also work in tandem for such an experience. This is the reason why the iPhone with a 60Hz display works as well as some Android phones with higher refresh rate displays.

OnePlus Nord N100 specifications and price

OnePlus Nord N100 is the first entry-level offering from the company. It is priced at €200/£179(~Rs 17,600) and is available for purchase in Europe and the UK. The smartphone features a 6.52-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1,600 x 720 pixels. Powering the device is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 460 chipset with 4GB RAM and 64GB expandable storage. This limited hardware could be the reason why OnePlus did not mention a 90Hz display at the time of launch.

For imaging, the OnePlus Nord N100 offers a triple rear camera setup. The main camera on the back uses a 13-megapixel sensor and is paired with a 2-megapixel depth and a 2-megapixel macro lens. For selfies, there is an 8-megapixel camera housed in a punch-hole cutout. The smartphone packs a 5,000mAh battery with 18W charging and a 3.5mm audio jack.
