OnePlus has been creating a lot of hype around its upcoming mid-range offering, which was speculated to be called various names including the OnePlus Z, OnePlus Lite and OnePlus Nord. However, the brand has now confirmed the name of the upcoming smartphone with the premiere of its ‘New Beginnings’ documentary series. OnePlus aired Episode 1 of the series and also confirmed that its upcoming affordable phone will be called the OnePlus Nord.

OnePlus CEO Pete Lau also seems to have hinted at the pricing of the upcoming handset in the documentary. Moreover, at one point in the documentary, we also get a glimpse of the OnePlus Nord, revealing some key design elements.
OnePlus Nord to be priced below Rs 40,000
OnePlus has put up a story highlight on its @onepluslitezthing Instagram handle with text that reads, “It’s been a while since we have done anything like this. At a price like this.” In the next highlight, we can see Pete Lau saying that the “Nord will be our first product below $500 in recent years.”
While the CEO didn’t reveal the exact pricing of the upcoming launch, it’s now clear that the OnePlus Nord will not be a mid-range offering. With a sub-Rs 40,000 price tag, it looks like a phone that will sit below the flagship OnePlus 8 series.
OnePlus Nord design revealed
At around 5:58 minutes into Episode 1, you can see the camera zoom in on a smartphone in the hands of a team member. We can spot an all-metal build and a dual selfie camera cutout on the front. Notably, the OnePlus Nord was rumoured to be the first smartphone from the brand to come with dual selfie cameras, which now seems to have been confirmed.
A little further ahead into the video and we get a glimpse of the back panel with triple cameras arranged in an inverted L-shape, inside an square-shaped camera module. However, there’s an ongoing argument between Carl Pei and two other team members about how the design is not suitable, so we would advise taking the back panel design with a pinch of salt. This seems to be the early stages of development and its likely that the final design might vary.
OnePlus Nord specifications and features (rumoured)
The OnePlus Nord will reportedly ship with a punch-hole AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate panel and an in-display fingerprint scanner. The smartphone is tipped to be powered by the Snapdragon 765G processor with 5G connectivity.
A recent rumour has revealed that the upcoming phone will be the first from the brand to feature a dual selfie camera setup comprising a 32MP primary lens backed by an 8MP ultra-wide lens. There’s no word on the rear camera setup except that it will be a triple camera module with a 48MP or 64MP primary unit.
The phone is expected to be powered by a 4,000mAh battery with support for 30W fast charging.
