OnePlus recently unveiled the mid-range OnePlus Nord in Europe and India. Before it went official, the company had confirmed that it will not be launching the OnePlus Nord in the U.S. However, it had stated that it will be releasing more affordable phones to North America in the future.
OnePlus CEO Carl Pei revealed in an interview with Wired that a Nord-branded phone will debut in the U.S. later this year. It is being speculated that this phone may be a Nord-series device fuelled by the Snapdragon 690 chipset. XDA Developers has also revealed the model names of the rumoured SD690 powered Nord smartphone.
OnePlus Nord phone with Snapdragon 690 could be coming soon
Rumours about a new OnePlus Nord series phone appeared when an OnePlus phone driven by the Snapdragon 690 chipset was spotted on the Geekbench benchmarking platform earlier this month. If this 5G-ready phone really exists, it could be positioned lower than the OnePlus Nord in the market.
XDA reported that it discovered multiple references to an OnePlus phone codenamed as Billie in the code of OxygenOS 10.5 available on the OnePlus Nord. It stated that there were several calls to a method named “isSM6350Products” in the OxygenOS Settings APK file.
It is already known that the SM6360 is the internal name for Snapdragon 690 5G chipset that was announced last month. The SoC was found to be related to model names like BE2025, BE2026, BE2028, or BE2029. The publication speculated that these could model names of the country variants of the smartphone.
OnePlus seems to be using music start theme for its smartphone. The letter “AC” in the AC2001 and AC2002 model names of the OnePlus Nord refers to a popular Swedish DJ named Avicii. The publication speculated that the letters “BE” in the BE202x model names could refer to Billi Eilish who is a singer and songwriter from America.
The name of the rumoured OnePlus Nord model with Snapdragon 690 is currently under wraps. It could be the Nord device heading to the US markets later this year. The handset could be also made available in European and Indian markets.
