OnePlus 8 series could support wireless charging as the brand joins Wireless Power Consortium

OnePlus has finally become a member of the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC), which is the group that handles the development and maintenance of wireless charging standards. The Chinese tech giant is now a full member of the standards group, and is joining the likes of Apple, Samsung, LG, Google, HMD Global, OPPO, Huawei, ASUS, and other phone makers. Now it is safe to assume that the future OnePlus smartphones could flaunt wireless charging functionality. The brand has joined WPC ahead of the launch of the upcoming OnePlus 8 series, which are rumoured to flaunt wireless charging capability.

OnePlus 8 series phones are expected to flaunt wireless charging

Most of the major smartphone makers like Apple, Samsung, Huawei, LG, Sony, and Xiaomi have already launched a handful of devices with support for wireless charging. Now OnePlus will also be offering this tech on its phones. The Last year’s OnePlus 7 was initially rumoured to arrive with wireless charging, but it didn’t happen. Before the launch of the 7 series, the brand’s CEO Pete Lau said that wireless charging is still a nascent technology. Furthermore, Lau said that the “OnePlus charging is one of the best. Wireless charging is far inferior”. Now, the company seems to be all set to incorporate the wireless charging tech on its devices.

One of the OnePlus 8 series phones could offer 120Hz screen refresh rate

Talking about the upcoming OnePlus 8 series phones, one of them is expected to flaunt the brand’s recently introduced 120Hz fluid display technology. The screen refresh rate of the phone will be much higher than the 90Hz display of the OnePlus 7 Pro. The brand claims that its 120Hz screen technology will bring the “best smartphone display in 2020”. Additionally, we can expect the OnePlus 8 series flagships to offer Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 865 processor and support for 5G connectivity.

If the reports are to be believed, OnePlus could introduce the OnePlus 8 series smartphones early this year, possibly by March. Notably, a handful of CAD-based renders of the upcoming OnePlus devices were leaked in the past few weeks, and we can expect the rumour mill to reveal more details about them in the near future.
