OnePlus has always maintained that India is a very important market, and it has taken steps towards reinforcing the same. A simultaneous launch event in India at the time of global launch of its flagships and launching the OnePlus TV in India ahead of the world are some indications of the same. However, the latest announcement from the brand is a step ahead and shows OnePlus’s commitment to the Indian market. The company has opened its first R&D centre in Hyderabad today and announced big plans for the same in future.
OnePlus announced that the R&D center in Hyderabad will be working towards developing Artificial Intelligence and Machine learning in its products. The facility will also be responsible for coming up with innovations that are India-centric and relevant to the Indian community. The company has plans to make the Hyderabad facility its biggest R&D center across the globe in the next three years. To this extent, the company will be investing Rs 1,000 crores in the newly-inaugurated facility over the period of next three years.
Pete Lau, Founder and CEO, OnePlus said, “In three years, we plan to grow the new R&D centre in Hyderabad into our biggest globally. We plan to re-focus our R&D efforts on a large scale and drive innovations in India for the global product, especially on the software side with special emphasis on Artificial Intelligence, 5G and IoT.”
The newly inaugurate OnePlus lab will comprise of three parts including a camera lab, communications and networking labs and automation labs. According to the brand, these divisions will focus solely upon camera development, 5G testing, software with a focus on AI and performance testing. The facility will also work specifically on India-specific OxygenOS features including OnePlus applications design. The focus will also be on speeding up the 5G network availability in regions like India, Europe and the UK. The company mentioned that it has plans to adopt the Indian market as its home ground and the new facility is the first step in that direction.
