OnePlus has introduced a universal search feature called OnePlus Scout for the brand’s smartphone users in India. Currently, it is a part of the OnePlus Launcher beta program on the Google Play Store, and will be made available to everyone in the coming weeks based on user feedback. The feature is being rolled out with v4.7.2_200818175549 of the OnePlus Launcher app.
The OnePlus Scout will allow users to search for anything on their devices from contacts to files. The update also brings the ability to search locations, restaurants and nearby places. OnePlus says that the new feature has been developed in OnePlus India’s R&D centre in Hyderabad.
OnePlus Scout universal search feature now available in India
The OnePlus Scout brings unified search option on OnePlus smartphones. It can be accessed by opening the app drawer and tapping on the search box. While setting up the OnePlus Scout, users can choose between showing results from the installed apps or from the web, or they can select both options as well.
The feature allows users to look for search terms all through the device by typing the query in search box. Additionally, OnePlus Scout can also find solutions to simple math problems by using the calculator app. Users can also get news and weather information from third-party apps installed on the phone. However, the feature isn’t capable of searching through messages on the device.
Commenting on the release, OnePlus India VP Ramagopala Reddy said ‘OnePlus Scout is one of the key projects that have been developed entirely out of the Indian centre, exclusively piloted for Indian OnePlus users. We are confident that the OnePlus Scout will improve our user’s experience slashing seconds off the time spent searching for anything on your device.’
OnePlus Scout is helpful for quick-searches and for users who forget file locations and apps. It’s currently available to Indian users and there’s no word regarding a wider rollout. OnePlus is also set to introduce features like Work-Life balance and SMS categorisation for its Indian users on the upcoming OxygenOS 11.
Meanwhile, earlier this month, OnePlus announced a partnership with PUBG Mobile to bring 90fps gameplay to select smartphones for a month.
