Earlier this week OnePlus confirmed that its upcoming OnePlus TV will sport a 55-inch display with QLED panel. Now ahead of its launch, the company has revealed that it is extending its partnership with Google to its smart TV segment as well. This means that the OnePlus TV will run on Android TV.
Vikas Agarwal, General Manager, OnePlus India said, “These past five years have been about constant exploration, diving deep into how best we can use technology and innovation and Google has been strategic to us in India since the beginning, furthering our efforts towards our goal. Now, as we venture into newer segments with OnePlus TV, we are very excited to bring together our collective knowledge by extending that work. We believe that with our combined expertise, we can move ever closer to improve the human experience through simplicity, efficiency, and intelligent functionality.”
As an Android TV, the OnePlus TV will offer features like Google Assistant, built-in Chromecast and Google Play Services, among other things. Users can access their favorite entertainment, get on-screen weather updates, manage calendar tasks, and even control other smart home devices with voice commands. A post on the OnePlus forum by company CEO Pete Lau confirmed that the OnePlus Android TV will receive regular Android TV software updates for at least three years. Previous reports have hinted that the OnePlus TV could come with Bluetooth 5.0 support and an unique Android TV experience. We expect the TV to run a custom interface on top of Android TV, similar to OxygenOS that is skinned on the top of OnePlus smartphones.
Based on earlier reports, OnePlus TV is expected to offer 4K resolution with HDR support. India will be the first market to receive the OnePlus TV. The TV is slated to launch sometime in September and will go on sale on Amazon India.
