In the months leading up to the launch of the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro there were speculations of a more affordable model in the pipeline called the OnePlus 8 Lite. The handset was expected to mark the return of OnePlus to the mid-range segment after the OnePlus X, that was launched back in 2015. Last month, a tweet by tipster Max Weinbach had hinted that OnePlus might launch the OnePlus 8 Lite as the OnePlus Z.
While the alleged smartphone was not announced alongside the OnePlus 8 series, we now have new information claiming that the OnePlus Z is still in the works, and will be launched in a few months.

The new information comes from Max J., the editor of All About Samsung. As per the source, the OnePlus Z will be launched in July 2020. While there’s no confirmed launch date yet, the tweet contains a silhouette of the smartphone showing the punch-hole cutout in the centre, which lines up with the renders of the OnePlus 8 Lite we saw last year.
Apart from this, the new leak doesn’t shed light on any other details. Previous rumours have suggested that the smartphone might come with a price tag of £400 (~Rs 37,500). But given the fact that OnePlus 8 series is priced starting at Rs 41,999 in India, we can expect OnePlus Z to cost significantly less in the country.
OnePlus Z specifications and features
In the past, leaks have suggested that the OnePlus 8 Lite aka OnePlus Z will likely feature a 6.5-inch AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate. The renders have suggested that apart from the centered punch-hole cutout, the phone will feature a triple camera setup in a rectangular module on the back. The camera setup will comprise of 48MP + 16MP + 12MP rear cameras.
On the performance front, the OnePlus Z is rumoured to be powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 1000 processor with support for 5G connectivity. The processor is expected to be accompanied by up to 8GB RAM and 256GB onboard storage. Lastly, the OnePlus Z will have a 4,000mAh battery with 30T Warp charging support.
