Earlier in April this year, OPPO had debuted its A72 smartphone in China. Now the brand has launched a 5G variant of the same device in its home market. The latest offering is different in terms of specifications compared to its 4G model. The OPPO A72 5G is the first smartphone to be powered by the recently announced MediaTek Dimensity 720 5G SoC.
Compared to the A72, the 5G variant comes with a higher RAM capacity and a high refresh rate display, but a downgraded battery unit and camera setup. The smartphone features a square-shaped rear camera module. Let’s take a look below.
OPPO A72 5G specifications and features
The OPPO A72 5G retains the same 6.5-inch punch-hole display bearing FHD+ resolution from the 4G variant. However, the latest smartphone offers a 90Hz refresh rate screen compared to non-5G model’s standard 60Hz display. The A72 5G also comes with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner embedded in the power button. The back panel houses three camera sensors along with LED flash inside a square module.
Compared to the A72’s quad-camera module, the 5G variant sports triple rear cameras. The setup consists of a 16MP primary sensor, 8MP ultra-wide lens and a 2MP depth shooter. The front camera is also downgraded to 8MP from 16MP on the 4G variant.
On the hardware front, the OPPO A72 5G is equipped with Dimensity 720 processor with support for 5G connectivity. It is offered in a single 8GB RAM and 128GB storage option. The device lacks a microSD card slot for additional storage expansion. The smartphone draws its power from a 4,040mAh battery unit with support for 18W fast charging via a USB-C port. The OPPO A72 5G runs Android 10 with ColorOS 7.2 on top.
