Oppo A83 Goes Official in China: Bezel-less Display,13MP Camera and Android Nougat

On: December 27, 2017

Oppo, the China-based smartphone maker has launched an all-new device dubbed as the A83. This smartphone was launched in China and will compete in the budget smartphone segment. The phone was launched at a price of 1399 Yuan which translates to roughly about Rs. 13,500. Let’s have a closer look at what this phone has to offer.

Display and Design

On the design front, the smartphone rocks a metal build which offers a stylish and sturdy feel. Unlike other bezel-less smartphone offerings by the brand, this device lacks a fingerprint sensor. The rear side of the phone is where the camera module and some branding by Oppo are located. The front of the phone is largely occupied by the big 5.7-inch bezel-less Full HD+ display having a resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels.

Performance and Storage

According to TENAA, the phone is powered by an octa-core processor by MediaTek. To add to that, the phone packs in 4GB of RAM for smooth multitasking. In terms of storage, Oppo has equipped the A83 with 32GB of internal storage which can be expanded externally through a microSD card up to 128GB.

Camera and Software

In the optics department, the A83 features a 13-megapixel camera on the rear which is coupled with an LED flash for low-light images. On the front, the phone integrates an 8-megapixel sensor for capturing selfies and making video calls. In addition to that, the phone also offers support for Face Unlock through its front-facing camera. This is a nice addition since the fingerprint sensor has been eliminated. The Face Unlock feature on this phone isn’t as secure as that on the iPhone X which makes the more common PIN security the fallback option. On the software front, the phone runs on Oppo’s highly modified ColorOS 3.2 which is built on Android 7.1 Nougat.

Connectivity and Battery

In terms of connectivity, the Oppo A83 offers all conventional connectivity solutions such as 2G, 3G, 4G VoLTE, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2 and GPS. In terms of ports, the phone is fitted with a microUSB port on the bottom for charging/data transfer and a 3.5mm headphone jack for aux output. The phone draws power from a 3,180mAh battery pack located underneath its hood. Unfortunately, unlike other Oppo smartphones, this offering lacks the brand’s proprietary VOOC fast charging technology.

With Oppo rigorously pushing budget-friendly smartphones to the Indian market, it is likely that this phone will make it to the country as well. Stay tuned to the Pricebaba blog as we bring you more of such news.
