OPPO A91 and OPPO A8 with up to four rear cameras go official in China

OPPO has silently introduced two new A series smartphones called the OPPO A91 and OPPO A8 in its home market of China. The OPPO A91 is a mid-range phone that comes with some notable features like quad rear cameras, an in-screen fingerprint reader, and a fast charging battery. The OPPO A8, on the other hand, is a budget-friendly smartphone that features a tall aspect ratio, beefy internal storage, and a triple primary camera setup at the rear. Both the OPPO A91 and A8 smartphones are available for pre-registrations in China and are scheduled to go on sale on December 26th.

The OPPO A91 and A8 are equipped with 6.4-inch FHD+ and 6.5-inch HD+ displays, which utilise AMOLED screen panels. The screen of the OPPO A91 offers with other features like DC dimming 2.0 and the third-generation in-screen fingerprint reader. Both phones come with eye protection mode that effectively filters out harmful blue light. According to OPPO, the OPPO A91 offers 90.7 percent screen space whereas the OPPO A8 delivers 89 percent screen-to-body ratio. The OPPO A91 and OPPO A8 are both preloaded with ColorOS 6.1 that’s based on Android 9 Pie.

The OPPO A91 is powered by a MediaTek Helio P70 chipset, which is coupled with 8GB of RAM and a 4,025mAh battery that supports 30W VOOC 4.0 rapid charging. The device has 128GB of native storage that can be further increased by inserting a microSD card. The OPPO A91 features a 16MP selfie camera. At the rear, the device has a 48MP main sensor, which is aided by three more cameras including an 8MP snapper and two 2MP shooters. The phone has connectivity features like dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, USB-C port, and 3.5mm audio jack. OPPO A8

OPPO A8 features a tall aspect ratio display, a large internal storage and triple rear camerasAs for the OPPO A8, the phone is driven by the MediaTek Helio P35 chipset, which is accompanied by 4GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage. The handset is packed with a larger 4,230mAh battery. However, there is no support for fast charging on the device. For imaging, the OPPO A8 has an 8-megapixel selfie shooter. The rear side of the phone features a triple camera setup, which comprises of a 12-megapixel primary lens, a 2-megapixel macro lens, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. The OPPO A8 has a rear-positioned fingerprint sensor and offers the same set of connectivity options as the A91, except there’s no USB Type-C port support.

OPPO A91 and OPPO A8 price and availability

The OPPO A91 and A8 smartphones are priced at RMB 1,999 (~Rs 20,300) and RMB 1,199 (~Rs 12,200) respectively in China. The colour variants of the OPPO A91 are Black, Red, and Blue, while the OPPO A8 comes in colour options such as Azure and Secret Night Black. The first sale of the new A-series OPPO phones will be carried out on December 26th. There is no official word on the availability of these phones outside of China at the moment.
