Chinese smartphone maker OPPO has announced the latest version of its proprietary operating system, ColorOS. The new ColorOS 7 features a new visual design by decluttering the UI and improving its overall colours. The company’s latest Android skin is based on Android 10 and aimed at offering a better user experience. OPPO claims that there are more than 300 million ColorOS users worldwide today. ColorOS 7 comes with design changes, performance optimisations, camera enhancements, and features like Focus Mode. OPPO is slated to announce ColorOS 7 in India on November 26th.
Beginning with the visual design on ColorOS 7, OPPO has increased the white space in the UI for comfortable viewing. Users can customise the app icons and change the shape and size of the icons on the home screen. On the audio front, OPPO has partnered with Episound, a Danish sound company to redesign the sound effects. Similar to MIUI 11, ColorOS 7 will offer the sound of the physical world around the user for a soothing experience. The latest Android skin also brings a system-wide dark mode that supports third-party applications as well.
The new ColorOS 7 comes with a new Focus mode that is similar to Zen mode on Oxygen OS. The OS can also switch automatically to drive mode after it connects to the car’s Bluetooth. ColorOS 7 also brings improvements to the camera app with Portrait mode 2.0, enhanced night mode and super stabilisation for video recording. On the performance front, ColorOS 7 comes with background optimisations. OPPO claims that with ColorOS 7, app startup speeds have increased by 25 percent and the RAM utilisation has improved by 40 percent. The gaming performance is also said to be reportedly improved with touch response and game frame rates increasing by 15 and 19 percent respectively.
OPPO has announced that the OPPO Reno 3 5G will be the company’s first smartphone to receive the ColorOS 7 update. The brand also revealed the rollout timeline of the latest OS. Phase 1 of the rollout will begin from November 25 for the OPPO Reno, Reno 10x Zoom, Reno FC Barcelona Edition, Reno Ace, and Reno Ace Gundam Edition. The Reno 2 will get the software update in December. In the first quarter of 2020, the update will be rolled out to Reno2 Z, Reno Z, Find X (including special editions), R17 (including special editions) and Oppo K5. The Oppo R15, K3, A9, A9x, A11, and A11x will receive the ColorOS 7 update in Q2 2020.
