Oppo F5 Launched in India – Price, Specifications and More

Just after a week of its international launch in the Philippines, the Oppo F5 has been officially released for the Indian market. The phone, similar to other smartphones launched by Chinese OEMs recently is built around the concept of taking great selfies, such as the Redmi Y1 and Y1 Lite from Xiaomi. The Oppo F5 is geared to accomplish this task by packing in a great pair of lens and some AI garnishing to accompany it. Let’s find out what this device has to offer.

Display and Design

This Oppo F5 is the first device from the company to sport a bezel-less design. It features a sturdy plastic design with a 6-inch display bearing an 18:9 screen to body ratio. As both Oppo and Vivo are brands owned by BBK Electronics, the recently launched Vivo V7+ and the F5 share some striking similarities on the design front.

The F5 features a 6-inch FHD+ LCD display, unlike the mere HD panel on the Vivo V7+. The display panel sports a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels which translates to a pixel density of about 402.5 PPI. To improve the user experience, the phone also features 2.5D curved glass.

Performance and Storage

Underneath its hood, the latest offering from Oppo is powered by an octa-core MediaTek MT6763T processor clocked at 2.2GHz. The chipset is coupled with a Mali-G71 MP2 GPU for better gaming performance. The smartphone runs on the company’s custom user interface, ColorOS 3.2 which is built on top of Android 7.1 Nougat.

As far as storage is concerned, the phone is offered in two variants having 32GB and 64GB of internal storage which can be expanded up to 128GB via the microSD card slot. In addition to that, the F5 variants also differ in terms of RAM offered, with the 32GB version having 4GB of RAM and the 64GB variant packing in a whopping 6GB of RAM. The 4GB RAM will be available in a Gold and Black colour edition while the bigger 6GB variant will be available in a Red and Black colour edition.

Camera

The main highlight to this smartphone is its set of cameras; the front facing one is the more fancy one. On the front, the phone features its 20-megapixel selfie snapper; a whole 4 million pixel sharper than its rear camera, making it clear that this phone is built for capturing selfies. Not only that, but the front-facing camera is also backed with some neat AI tricks under its sleeves which include beautification mode, among others.

According to the company, the front-facing camera will is capable of scanning over 200 facial recognition spots. Similar to the iPhone X, the Oppo F5 is expected to make use of its front camera to unlock the device. However, the company has also stated that the face unlock feature isn’t as secure to fingerprint sensor or a passcode lock on this device. So you might not want to completely rely on it just yet.

On the back, the device sports a 16-megapixel sensor having a f/1.8 aperture which when speaking about camera apertures, less is more. The f/1.8 aperture lets in more light thereby making the phone capable of taking more legible images in poor lighting.

Connectivity and Battery

As for connectivity, the smartphone comes with support for multiple LTE bands, 3G and 2G in addition to being VoLTE capable. Similar to other mobile phones, the Oppo F5 also offers dual-band WiFi support, Bluetooth and GPS. On the bottom, the device rocks a micro USB port for charging, data transfer and USB OTG. The phone draws its power from a non-removable 3200mAh Li-ion battery unit located under its hood.

The Oppo F5 has been priced at Rs. 19,990, for the 4GB RAM and 32GB inbuilt storage variant and Rs. 24,990 for the 6GB and 64GB variant. The company also stated that the 6GB variant will be available from December while the 4GB one will be up for grabs starting November 9 on Flipkart.
