Chinese OEMs like Oppo and Gionee are competing hard in launching phones in the mid-price segment and the F5 Youth is another contender from Oppo. The phone is expected to be a more affordable version of the popular mid-range F5 offering. Let’s have a look at what this phone has to offer.
Display and Design
Similar to the design language followed by other offerings by Oppo, the F5 Youth also sports a metal design with a fingerprint sensor on the back. The front of the phone features a large 6.01-inch bezel-less display. The Full HD+ display panel rocks a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels and reproduces a pixel density of about 403 PPI.
Performance and Storage
Underneath its hood, the F5 Youth is powered by an octa-core MediaTek MT6763T SoC ticking at 2.5GHz. The phone also packs in 3GB of RAM for all multi-tasking purposes. On the storage front, the phone will ship in a 32GB internal storage variant and can be expanded up to 256GB through microSD card.
Camera and Software
For the shutterbugs, Oppo has equipped the F5 Youth with a 13-megapixel rear-facing sensor having an aperture of f/2.2. The phone also appeals to the selfie-enthusiasts with its 16-megapixel front facing camera having an aperture of f/2.0. The primary camera is also coupled with LED flash for capturing images in low light. The phone also integrates Face Unlock similar to what the OnePlus 5T features. On the software front, the smartphone runs Oppo’s custom ColorOS 3.2 based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat. The phone is also likely to be updated to Android Oreo in the coming months.
Connectivity and Battery
The phone offers all conventional connectivity solutions including 2G, 3G, 4G with VoLTE, dual-band WiFi and Bluetooth. It also supports quick charging the 3200mAh through the company’s proprietary VOOC quick charging technology.
Pricing and Availability
The Oppo F5 Youth has been launched in the Philippines for an asking price of PHP 13,990 which translates to roughly about Rs. 17,765. The phone is up for grabs in the Philippines in Black and Gold color variants. The phone is likely to make it to India as well as the company has been launching phones to compete in this price segment and the F5 Youth appears to be a competitive contender.
