Oppo has given another boost to its selfie-phone lineup by launching the Oppo F7 today. This is another phone that conforms to the ‘notch-trend’ recently followed by a bunch of Android smartphones. It is a mid-range smartphone and starts at Rs. 21,999. The F7 competes with phones like the newly launched Vivo V9, Moto X4, Samsung Galaxy A7 and a few others. Let’s see what the Oppo F7 has in store for us.
The smartphone comes with a large 6.2-inch bezel-less display and a notch on top, resembling the design of the iPhone X. It is a Full HD+ display bearing a resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels and screen-to-body ratio of almost 90%. Aspect ratio of the phone measures to 19:9, similar to most other bezel-less ‘notch’ phones. The phone looks quite premium and is available in two different colours: Solar Red, Moonlight Silver and Diamond Black.
In the camera department, the phone excels, especially when it comes to the front sensor. There’s a 25-megapixel selfie camera located on the front notch. This sensor should be able to click desirable selfies in all lighting conditions. All sorts of AI enhancements are offered including AI Selfie and AI Beauty Technology 2.0. You also get Face Unlock which has become quite common lately. On the rear, there’s just a single camera though, one 16-megapixel sensor with an f/2.0 aperture. In this price range, phones usually come with a dual-rear camera setup but Oppo has offered just one camera in the F7.
In terms of performance, the phone packs in MediaTek Helio P60, an octa-core processor clocked at 2GHz. It comes in two RAM and storage variants, 4GB + 64GB and another 6GB + 128GB. You can expect good multi-tasking and gaming performance out of this phone. The F7 runs on Colour OS 5.0 based on Android 8.1 Oreo. If you are a stock Android lover, you might not be fully pleased with the additional customizations offered by Colour OS. However, there are some useful features like gesture navigation support and App-in-App view among others.
All the basic connectivity options including 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth and WiFi are offered in the phone. The F7 is powered by a 3400mAh battery which seems decent. However, Oppo offers VOOC charging in its phones, so you should be able to charge the device very quickly.
Base variant of the phone with 4GB of RAM is priced at Rs. 21,999 and the higher 6GB variant will cost Rs. 26,990. This is the first smartphone by Oppo to be sold via flash sales. The first sale will be held on April 9 on Flipkart and will last for 24 hours. It will also be available across various offline retail stores throughout the country.
