OPPO patents phone with crescent-shaped rear camera placement, could be the Find X2

On: January 17, 2020

Earlier this month, OPPO‘s VP and President of Global Marketing teased the arrival of its upcoming flagship, the OPPO Find X2. The device will arrive as the successor to the original Find X launched back in 2018. Now the upcoming smartphone has received a design patent by the Chinese patent office. We also get a first look at the OPPO Find X2. The smartphone is already confirmed to be powered by a flagship Snapdragon 865 processor with 5G connectivity. It is also confirmed to feature Sony’s latest image sensor with a 2 x 2 on-chip lens. However, VP Brain Shen revealed that the device won’t come with under-display camera technology.

The patent application images reveal a triple rear camera setup with an LED flash in a crescent moon alignment. The primary sensor is expected to be bigger than the other two. There is also a semi-circular ring above the camera sensors that could be associated with some feature. The camera design on the Find X2 seems quite unique. To recall, the rear cameras on the original Find X were aligned horizontally. The patent renders also hints at a big pop-up front camera module at the top. However, it is expected to be smaller than the OPPO Reno’s ‘shark-fin’ module. The size of the module also hints at dual-selfie cameras on the Find X2. The USB-C port is located at the bottom, sandwiched between two speaker grilles. The smartphone has a power button on the right side and volume rocker on the left.

These are just patent renders of the OPPO Find X2 and the real design of the device could be entirely different. OPPO is expected to debut the Find X2 at MWC next month. We expect the smartphone to arrive with industry-first features just like the original Find X.

OPPO Find X specifications:

The Find X was the first smartphone with bezel-less display and a motorised selfie camera module. It features a 6.42-inch AMOLED screen with FHD+ resolution. The rear camera module consists of 20MP + 16MP sensors, while on the front, the device is fitted with a 25MP selfie snapper. The Find X is powered by the Snapdragon 845 chipset coupled with 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage. The device is backed by a 3,730mAh battery unit with support for VOOC fast charging.
