OPPO Find X2 Pro unboxing and first impressions: a flagship beast

OPPO launched its second-generation Find X series flagships called the OPPO Find X2 and Find X2 Pro in March. These two handsets come after a gap of two years since the OPPO Find X was launched. OPPO has been teasing the launch of the Find X2 series in India for some time now with an Amazon microsite already up and running for the smartphones.

The company has now launched the OPPO Find X2 and Find X2 Pro in India, which offer features like 6.7-inch 120Hz QHD+ AMOLED Ultra Vision display, Snapdragon 865 SoC, 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 fast charging and more as their highlights. We have received the Pro variant ahead of the launch and here are our initial impressions and a peek inside the retail box of the handset.

The OPPO Find X2 Pro comes in a dark blue cardboard box with a distinctive pattern all over. As you lift the lid, you will first find a cardboard sheath containing the transparent protective case, documentation and SIM ejector tool. Under the sheath is the Find X2 Pro with a screen protector pre-applied on it. Below the smartphone lies the 65W fast charger, USB Type-C cable, and in a pleasant surprise – a pair of USB Type-C earphones.

Coming to the OPPO Find X2 Pro, the flagship features a premium build with a ceramic back in black. There’s also a vegan leather option in the Find X2 Pro with an orange faux leather back panel and OPPO branded metal panel on the back. The OPPO Find X2 Pro is an IP54 and IP65 rated splash-proof and dust resistant smartphone.

The back panel of the handset is pretty bare except for the fairly large triple camera module in the top left corner and OPPO branding vertically below it. As for the elements, there’s USB Type-C port, speaker grille and SIM tray at the bottom. The volume rocker is located on the left edge, whereas the power button is situated on the right edge. There’s no fingerprint scanner as the phone features an in-display module. OPPO has omitted the 3.5mm audio jack as well, but the Type-C earphones in the box make up for this.

The OPPO Find X2 Pro’s window to the world is a gorgeous 6.7-inch AMOLED display with 3K+ (3,168 × 1,440 pixels) screen resolution. The display comes with a high refresh rate of 120Hz, a touch sampling rate of 240Hz, 100 percent DCI-P3 coverage and MEMC chip. The display offers a tall aspect ratio of 20:9 and 512ppi pixel density. The display is as stunning as it appears to be on paper. The colours are super punchy with sharp text and the screen is bright enough to be used outside.

Handling the performance of the smartphone is Snapdragon 865 SoC backed by 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and 512GB UFS 3.0 storage. The phone boots Android 10 with ColorOS 7.1. interface on the top. As is expected from the combination of a flagship processor, LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3,0 storage, the OPPO Find X2 pro is blazing fast. The ColorOS 7.1 based on Android 10 seems to have fair share of bloatware, most of which can be removed easily.

As for the battery, the OPPO Find X2 Pro is powered by a 4,260mAh battery with support for 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 Flash Charge technology. OPPO claims that the phone charge from zero to 100 percent in just 38 minutes, which is impressive.

Let’s talk about the highlights of the smartphone now. The OPPO Find X2 Pro comes with an all-new custom-developed Sony IMX689 48-megapixel primary shooter backed by a 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 wide-angle sensor and an OIS assisted 13-megapixel periscope zoom lens. The latter features support for 5x optical zoom, 10x hybrid zoom and 60x digital zoom. In an era of 108-megapixel flagships, Find X2 Pro’s 48-megapixel primary shooter might sound underwhelming. However, the custom Sony IMX689 is one of the largest sensors around and is capable of capturing stunning shots. The punch-hole cutout on the front is housing the Sony IMX616 32-megapixel, which captures good self-portraits as well.

The OPPO is yet to announce the pricing and availability of the Find X2 Pro in India.  The smartphone has a lot going for it including premium design, flagship processor, powerful cameras and 65W fast charging. However, the OnePlus 8 Pro that starts from Rs 54,999 is pretty much on par with the Find X2 Pro and commands a good reputation in the flagship segment.
